Brake Kit

I did some searching so I basically came out with if you have rear drums your screwed... and have to swap an SS axle if you want rear disks... ouch that sux... I did my own googling and found this

STAINLESS STEEL BRAKES UNIVERSAL REAR SINGLE PISTON DRUM TO DISC BRAKE CONVERSION KIT - JCWhitney

on J/C Whittney... is this doable or should I just forget it... Thanks in advance... im new to all this so... im trying to figure it all out as this is my first car I can mod...

i don't like the drum disks they feel mushy...

Good kit/Bad kit... worth it not worth it... etc... if I paid for it I expect better performance... or should I just go with the SS kit and spend some money to get it upgraded...

meh I guess I shouldn't worry about it since this won't happen till summer anyways... but I'd like to get an idea of what I'm going to do now...

Its definately an upgrade. Honestly though i would get the front with it too and do it all at once. I have stock fronts besides steel lines with the rear kit, and since its so much stronger if you brake too hard it locks up easily and sends you sideways.

In all honesty I don't think rear brakes don't do that much. Not saying they're useless of course, but I think something like 80% of braking is done by our fronts.

I don't know much about the non SS Cobalts, but are you 4 or 5 lug? I did a Grand AM swap on my Cavalier a while back. It was 99% bolt on.

IMO, I would say invest in a drop/wheels before you think about big brakes. When I had my front kit on with stock SSSC wheels, you couldn't even notice them really. I love the look of big brakes but it is a pricey investment, thus the reason I have yet to buy the 13" rear kit for $500 from Baer.

I'm 4 lug...

:/

edit:
I'm going to wait till I eat the tread on these to get new wheels and tires... I really dont plan on lowering it untill i get my exhaust and tint done so... Was kinda hoping that there was an easy bolt on kit for fronts and backs... guess not... which is ok... I'll just have to spend more when I do it... Which I will...

I'm in the process of making my own big brake kit. I have a 07 ls sedan with rear drum with 4x100 bolt pattern. right now I am using the caliper from a ss/sc and rotters. I have welded the bolt holes up and redrilled them to 4x100 im just waiting on a set of hubcentric rings to center the rotor on the smaller hub diameter this is for the front. I could work on a drum to disk conversion if some one could take some pictures of the factory mounts

Totally agree. I think that instead of buying the Baer front and rear upgrade, then minus as well spend those money for the Corvette 6 pistons caliper big brake kit and leave the rear disks stock

yea in STOCK form. If you only do the front or only do the rear you're completely throwing off that ratio.

The Corvette kit will be far more superior to any other kit available for our cars. I can't honestly say that stopping power was my main reason for the kit. But if it was, I would of went Vette or Wilwood.

BTW, I knew that the Corvette kit was available at cobaltaddiction.com, but it seems that that site is no longer available. Can't find it anywhere else, if you guys know a source, please let me know
