Brakes dragging ever-so-often on 4,000 mile SS
My brakes have been dragging once in a while lately.....actually often enough that the computer on the car shows that my mileage has been going down(about 1.4 mpg over the past 4 days) I took the car in and the dealership cannot get it to repeat for them (just like the wobble at 71-75 mph they did not fix). If I tap the pedal , it will sort of "break loose" and roll . The brakes stay applied hard enough that the car will not roll out of a driveway/entry way to a road. That would be nice if I was new at a clutch and needed an "anti-roll back" sort of thing going on !!!
It usually happens when I make multiple short stops (example---- coming up to a four way stop and being like 3 cars back and inching forward a car at a time). It really feels like one of the front brakes(or both because there is no noticeable pulling). If I just sort of tap the pedal(like warning a guy tailgating) the brakes let loose. The parking brake is not hanging up(so says the dealership) And there is no noticeable heat anywhere(as in discoloring or rust)The brake pedal also moves freely and has no burrs that I can notice.
Any opinions,ideas, help, harrassment,poking fun , ect ???!!!
No , seriously, This is driving me nuts.
Thanks ahead of time.

Having the same problem and my rotors have grooves in them. Dealer states that they can not repeat this problem. O well its documented so when i have to get new rotors i will have them replace them. Car does not roll ever for me its like the brakes stick. would be great for a noob but i dont really need sticky brakes. I feel you pain if u get somewhere let me know so i can complain to my dealer.
Happened today again 2 times
But this time I noticed that my brake pedal was not "coming up" all the way. I could actually lift it about a 1/4" with the back of my foot. When I would do this the brakes would let loose and the car would actually start to roll back !
I looked in the shop manual and it may be the brake light switch . I am a big boy though and for all its' worth I cannot get under there to check it out(limited time too).
I am going to try to remove the accelerator and check it out sometime over the next couple days. I work this weekend(actually every weekend) so Monday looks most realistic.
At least now I know I can pull the pedal up from underneath and it lets go. I certainly hope this is my problem.'nuff said,

Yep , I could not find any problem with the adjustment of the switch , but I could not get in there well at all.
Took it back to the dealership while it was acting up and , of course, they cannot get it to repeat so they said GM told them it may be the brake booster. It is on order and the dealership will call when it comes in. I do not believe this is the problem , but best to let them deal with it. I am just about ready to start looking for a different car. I am getting so frustrated with the performance of this dealership. The next closest one has an even worse Rep so that is not an option. They even put two chips in the paint(of course they didn't do it !) when I took it in. Anyone have the number of a good dealer ?
Just kidding. I am trying to keep it light , but every time I turn around I am wasting my Off days sitting in a dealership.I have spent more time in the dealership with this car(2.5 months) than I have with my last 2 S-10 pick-ups(about 170 K miles and 5 years between them). This is sad.

Happened to my SS too. But the second week I owned it. My breaks were locking up. It took a whole week at the dealership for them to figure out that it was the switch behind the pedal that had been over tightened. Ever since then no problems.
Wow amazing. I was driving today and all i heard was this loud noise coming from the rear end of my car. I thought i had a bubble in the tire. Turns out my ebrake was ever so lightly raised up and now my rear rotors are eaten up a little bit on top. Wondering if this is something I can bring to the dealer since i did not even get a warning chime telling me it was on?
Brake booster / switch too
Yup , The dealership changed out the brake booster and re-adjusted the switch and it has stopped. Also most of my front end wobble stopped too. I am happy now. Thanks all.
