Brakes Question

Hello,
I have a question about our brakes.
When I look at the Haynes Manual it tells me that the minnimum pad thickness is 1/8" (0.125")
When I look at the Chiltons Manual it tells me that the minnimum pad thickness is 1/8" (0.125")
When I look at the GM Service Manuals it tells me that the minnimum pad thickness is 39/1000" (0.039")

What is the correct minnimum pad thickness?
Also
it mentions things like

Front Brakes J41/JM4
Front Brakes JL9
Rear Brakes JL9

What is the J41/JM4 JL9 thing all about? And how do I know what I have?

Those are GM option codes. J41/JM4 are the fronts in a front disc/rear drum setup. JL9 is disc brakes all around.

I don't know the other answer specifically, but 1/8" is pretty close to worn out anyway. I'd prefer to be safe than sorry myself.
