Brembo Conversion Question

Hey guys,

So, I remember there being word when the t/c was first coming out that you can convert your non-Brembo front brakes to Brembos by only buying the parts.. No custom work or anything crazy.. It's supposed to be simply a bolt-on.. This still true? Anyone successfully do this? I was looking into prices on CED and they didn't seem too crazy.. Approximately 700 for the full front brake conversion..

http://www.crateenginedepot.com/stor...P2396C192.aspx

This link shows only one caliper, however, on the bottom of the page is lists suggested items.. Are those all necessary? If so, it's about 700 plus shipping (I'm assuming) and an afternoon of tinkering.. Do you need to buy anything else or do anything else special? The stock rears are fine as well as the stock lines and master cylinder - correct? How about fluid?

Thanks!

The big issue with doing the brembo swap is the fact that the stock SS/SC and SS/NA rims are incompatable. The Brembo calipers are too large to clear those rims, hence why GM made new rims for the 08 and 09 TC models.

And yes, that is a single caliper, the front driver.

That wasn't what I was asking. What I was referring to is that are all of the parts in the "suggested items" necessary to do the conversion. IE, do you need those little brackets or whatever or can I just use mine? If you need everything listed (as I assume you do), then it'd bring the total to the 700 range. Which is acceptable. But is it a straight forward conversion, IE, buy the ****, bolt it on, and roll away?

And yes, I'm aware about the wheel situation. I have Ion Redline wheels, which clear the Brembos perfectly..

you need LNF banjo bolts, copper washers, flexible LNF brake lines, pads, pad kit caliper, mounting hardware, rotors calipers for the front....

Why not just go with the BBK kit?...it was good enough for the race cobalts.

Pretty sure that'll fit inside SS/SC rims too.

You need all of those items.

I have the Brembo's on my 06 SS/SC, and i love them.

Also, the SS/NA 17's clear the calipers, but it's close.

Found thread and PM'd. Thanks!

Here's cmiller's kit:

https://www.cobaltss.net/forums/parts-66/tc-brembos-214105/

It looks like it's just calipers and rotors. Approximately how much else to you think I'd spend to get these on? and he said he used his stock s/c brakelines on them..?

That's not entirely true as some ss/tc owners have mounted ss/sc rims.

The SS n/a 17's and Ion Redline 17's fit. The SS s/c wheels fit with a spacer.

Luckily I have the IRL's..

So pads DO come with it? That's what I thought.. It looked like they did..

URGENT:

From what's pictured, I can just directly swap these in, correct? Nothing else needed, right? I need to know this in the next like 5 minutes so I can buy them.. lol

Well, I bought them.. So we'll see.. But still feel free to chime in.. Please check the link and see.. It shows them from the sides and top.. Includes calipers with brackets, pads, clips, rotors, etc.. Just as pictured.. Please let me know.. Also, supposedly he just used standard s/c brake lines and was fine.. Details?

I'm pretty sure the SS/SC brakes lines are too short by 2 inches.

I think you can use the SS/SC lines on the TC with SC brakes, but not the other way around due to line mouting

You may need TC lines part number 15939642

I hope things go well on the install. Do some pics on the install and post them, so others will have reference to swap brakes as well. Let's see them when you're done.

My friend is gonna be doing the swap.. But I'll have him grab some pics and see what's up..

As for the lines in question, is this only some piece of line that can be easily swapped and not have to do a whole new set of lines? And how much are we talking for these extra lines?

Aside from that, everything looks like it's good to go? He said that he had these on his SS s/c with stock lines, so I don't know.. If these lines are cheap enough, I'll pick them up regardless, but if they're real expensive, I'll try my luck first..

Any more info on the lines?

Running the p/n for the lines shows between 15/25 for the line. I would need 2, correct? Would they be the same for both sides? If so, I may just go order these at the dealer tomorrow just incase.. They don't take returns, right?
