Brembo Question..

Hey guys,

I searching the Brembo sticky, I stumbled upon this bit of info..

* 25900763 - LF Brembo caliper - 300.90/178.37
* 25900764 - RF Brembo caliper - 300.90/178.37
25923942 - LH Steering Knuckle - 172.65/102.35
25923941 - RH Steering Knuckle - 172.65/102.35
* 25900781 - Frt caliper guide pin kit - 30.90/18.31
11570091 - Frt caliper mount bolts - 5.75/3.40
15939642 - Frt brake hose - 25.39/15.05
* 15893541 - Frt rotor - 147.88/87.66
* 25808929 - Frt pad kit - 200.19/118.67

I have the SS 2.4 with the factory 5 lug rotors and all that.. So my question is what of the above mentioned parts do I need for the conversion? Do you need anything else aside from what's mentioned? Do you need special pads or rotors or is anything usable? I'd like to use them with some Green/Red Stuff pads and maybe some drilled/slotted rotors.. But if you need special parts, then OK.. But since I already have the SS brakes, do I need all the knuckles and pins and stuff? I haven't personally messed with my brakes yet so I don't know what would be necessary. I also have 18 inch Enkei FN-18's with a +42 offset.. They're 18 inches.. Will they clear the rotors? If anyone can give any info it would be much appreciated..

Thanks!!!

Like all Crate Engine Depot listings, the first number is the suggested retail and the second is "your price".

Exactly.. I mean.. I think I saw on the sticky that you can use GM rotors.. But I'm not sure on the pads.. This being said, it sounds like you can just use stock rotors for the conversion, obviously saving money. But I'm not sure on the pads and other hardware.

Would'nt the brembo calibers be too big for stock 05-07 ss rotors?

Well then I'm glad I upgraded to 18's over my 17's..

Is the t/c rear any bigger to compensate? I know that on the SRT-8 vehicles, they have Brembo's on the rear too, but not on these.. Any other parts necessary or is this all? Do you need ALL of the ones mentioned if you already have SS brakes..?

Found this thread too..

https://www.cobaltss.net/forums/suspension-67/ss-tc-brake-prices-99036/

Hopefully you don't NEED the WHOLE front axle though as indicated.. But it sounds like you also need an upgrade master cylinder.. Figured so..

Is the 2.4 SS braking system EXACTLY the same as the s/c one..? Seems like it.. I didn't know, though, if there was a technicality like the FE3 verses the FE5 how it's a little bit upgraded.. Any help on that..?

you really have an uphill battle once you start to upgrade and its a pita, i would recommend you trade for a t/c but if you are determined then be patient and next month you will have an indication. If you already have the 2.4 5 stud wheels, then you prolly have the right master cylinder the rear brakes dont matter, they dont do much anyway, and you have more concerns with abs calibration which for sure is impossible for you to play with....so the best imho is a 311 rotor and the single piston SS/SC /Malibu/G6 caliper which it sounds like you have. The car will then stop fine, not that it doesnt now, but it wont take a lot of heat; with a 311 floating rotor the Brembo option then becomes an expensive exercise in looks... my 2 cents

Hmm.. So basically just run good components (rotors, pads, lines, etc) and I'll be just fine? That kinda sucks because even if it was like a grand to do the full set-up, I would've considered it..

You need these parts:

* 25808929 - Frt pad kit - 200.19/118.67

You cant use ANY of the stock parts from an SS brake corner(ie pads, rotor, etc.)

But of you truly want the full SS/TC system, youll also need to buy the rotors, calipers, brackets and pads for the rear brakes and the Master Cylinder as well. Expect the system price to double or more if you go with the full system.

You dont need a new rear axle if youve already got 4whl discs.

To my knowledge there not as of yet any stock replacement drilled/slotted rotors available for the TC.

If you really want brake performance and you arent merely interested in bragging rights or looks, you really should PM Qwik.

I created that list; the items with asterisks are what you absolutely must have. You can use your caliper mount bolts, by the way, from the existing SS brakes' caliper brackets. They will fit the Brembo calipers onto your steering knuckles. You need 2 each of the pin kit and rotors, everything else is one of each.

Maven makes a good point concerning the rear brakes. I have, however, run the front Brembos from the TC with the stock rear brakes in my supercharged SS (same brake system as non-supercharged SS or 2008 Sport). While the brake balance may be a little off, our ABS/EBCM system includes automatic brake force distribution; I did not notice any significant braking imbalance, even on the track.

I am working on the rear kit, but it is proving difficult to nail down the brake pads for the rears. And may I say that the performance increase from the previous SS brakes to the new Brembos is impressive; I went from fade issues on track to virtually no fade and noticably shorter braking distances. It was well worth it, IMO. PM me if you need any details on setup or parts; I try to study these things to near tedium before I buy anything and install it. I'll be happy to help out with anything from my experience.

BTW, I did not get a master cylender, and I'm not sure it is anything I'd worry about. The only issue would be if the pedal travel does not push enough fluid to the brakes to get maximum braking pressure, and I have not had a problem in that respect. I will be keeping this in mind when I do the rear brakes since the caliper pistons are larger than those of the previous SS also. I will update people if that is something to pay attention to.
