Brembo Rear Brake Swap

I've been looking into switching the OEM rear brakes for some 2-piston Brembo calipers. I'd like the look, grip, and quick pad swap ability of them. I'm gathering some information about our current OEM brake setup and this is what I've gotten so far:

Vented 292mm x 19.9mm rear rotors
40mm single piston iron calipers

Some things I'm needing to know about our current setup are:
Caliper mounting hole offset
Caliper mounting hole diameter
Pad area
Pad thickness

Does anybody have technical info on our rear brakes (and the fronts too, if possible)? I'm trying to make sure they bolt up properly.

if you guys are serious, i would start looking at cars that have them stock. ie sti evos 350 hell even the new hyundai has rear brembos. your still gonna need some custom brackets that mount onto the stock ones unless you planning on removing the rear twist beam because the brackets are welded onto them. next would be custom rotors lines with adapters and last would be emergency. good luck... btw they would kick much ass

Do you have to consider your rim diameter for these bigger brakes???

You wouldn't think so considering our fronts can clear 4-piston Brembo calipers and 12.4" rotors.

Why do you think you need more rear brake?

I also assume that new rear brakes would fix the rear brake wearing issue.

yea its got nothing to do with more rear brake. its all looks. more than likely you will lock the back end up quite a lot. as far a rim dia. i think offset would be the biggest concern.

more than likely it would fix it if done properly. isnt the wear issue because of the pads tho?

Oh

my god...

The reason the rear brakes wear the way they do...is because there is no rear brake disc debris cover. Debris from the road gets on the pad, you step on the brakes, there you go.

Someone PLEASE sticky this?

You might think it is ******* rocket science.

haha they bitch because they need to buy rear pads more than necessary. and no one really has a deffinate answer to why there wearing until people try to start elimnating the problem. some say dust shirld some say pads ebrake calaper location to close to rotor. but i agree there needs to be a sticky about this, but this thread isnt about brake wear its about rear brembo's

As I stated in the intro, I like the look, grip, and quick pad changing ability. If I take it to a road course or something I'm probably going to start going through brake pads pretty quickly. Have you seen how quickly you can do a Brembo pad change?... it's crazy. There are one and two minute youtube videos of people doing it. haha

can you prove this? i know people who have done rear disk conversions on other cars and left off the shields and they didn't have this problem.

Yea I have heard of lots of cars doing swaps with out the dust shields and have had no problems.the way I look at it is know one really knows the problem until you trouble shoot it. Until then will you really know the problem. And quick I'm not intrested in them for my car I would still need front brembo's first lol I just think it be cool

I did a rotor and pad swap and have no signs of wear issues on them. Everything else is the same, so that narrows it down to either the rotor or pad, or both. The brake calipers and lack of debris shield is now taken out of the equation.

Either the rotors are too soft and/or the pads are too abrasive. If there's somebody on here that's done a pad swap with the stock rotors or a rotor swap with the stock pads, we will then know which it is by process of elimination.

If you want to wait til the end of winter... I might have something in development. It would be a custom setup for sure, with a custom bracket. I would like 2 piston Brembos as well.

anything is possible given the money. Are you prepared to spend big bucks for: NO handbrake?; TOO MUCH rear brake bias?: DIFFICULT wheel clearance?. If the answers are yes, a 1000 bucks would get you a kit to install, plus shipping MAYBE.... send a deposit to OTTP and you can have it...

I can work something up if i get some interest. I work for a shop that is very open to ideas, and we are building my car up for NASA TT and Redline Time Attack, so the ease of pad changing will come in handy, amongst the other advantages.

How many people would be interested in this? I would go ahead and say the price would be north of $750 (not 100%, even on a ballpark). If I could get 10 people interested, I would make it happen before you know it. If we got 5, I could probably get it out sometime next spring.

I've been shopping for direct swaps, but that's coming up empty. What kind of refitting would we be looking at here?

Under hard braking at high speed, the car can get a weird slow fish wiggle going on (similar to when those guys on the pro sportbike circuits are getting on the brakes before a turn). Right now, I'm under the assumption that it may have a bit too much front bias because of that. Somebody please chime in on that.
