CAB play

I know there are a million threads on this already, but I really just need to know if there is any play in the control arm when you jack the car up with a bad CAB. Or do you have to take the control arm out to actually see the bad bushing? I have a popping noise from the left front, sounded like a ball joint but everything is real tight and can't seem to pinpoint it.

I have significant play in my bushings but I can't move them when the car is in the air.

I think John Powell knows of a way to check this while it's on the ground. You could just try to rock the car back and forth and see how badly the wheel moves front to back. The distance between the wheel lip and the fender edge will change depending on how bad the trailing cab is.

I can't verify this test since I have both the leading and front cabs from PRS

Ok question, I've looked around the how to but no one has seemed to have this problem. Took the arm out, well the bushing came right out. No tools needed. BUT I guess the bushing comes built with a ring around it? I have the ring still pressed in my CA. That needs to come out right?

LOL. If the bushing came out without the sleeve, then it was totally separated. You didn't cut it out, right? The way you make it sound, it was totally separated. It needs to be pressed out, like on a hydraulic press. Same thing for the new one. It has to be pressed in.

If you can remove both arms, just take the arms and the new bushings to a machine shop, or a good car shop, and have them press the old sleeves out, and the new bushings in.

yeah, I searched around some more and figured that out. Why not cut them out? Aside from the obvious danger of cutting the control arm itself. I let a buddy take them to his work he has a few pressed hopefully he'll figure it out.

got it out, put the new one in. haven't put the arm back on yet. Finishing up painting it. Looked pretty horrid with the rust starting to form.
