combating wheel hop

You S/C guys are not the only ones to suffer from wheel hop. My car feels the effects too. Perhaps a solution could help me launch the car, getting a better 60ft time and lower my ET.

Please only post if you have used an aftermarket part

Tell me what it is, how much and your opinion.

thanks

From the other posts I have read the J-Body Performance Control Arm Bushings are your best bet, but I don't know if they have them for the 2.4s yet. Might be something to look into.

OK IM going to give you the best singal part. Well sort singal.
Wheels and tires!
I had mad wheel hop befor I put the new wheels and tires on my car.
Now I have almost non at all.
The only other mod I have that is helping wheel hop is the ZZP motor mount.
About 95% of my wheel hop is gone.
Ill be doing the control arm bushings soon and hop to have 100% of it gone after that.

i wish they made torque braces for non lsj cars...it seems like wheel hop is evident in all models.

i can't imagine how bad it will be with the nitrous

one of my friends has a torque brace from weapon-r and says most of his wheel hop is gone...its about $150 or so and you can install it yourself...i will be buying one really soon...tires would be good also but are expensive, something like pirelli p-zero nero M+S,i also know someone who has those and says it helps a lot but plan on spending upwards of $600 for a set unless you only did the front(their is hardly a noticable difference in looks from stock)...

We need traction bars! I took a ride in Twincharged's Ion Redline w/ 280whp and his own custom traction bars and there was no wheel hop whatsoever.

what was the difference between the wheels and tires you got and the ones that you had stock?

That's because the tires you have now don't stick as well as the factory ones. Plain and simple.

On a more related note your best bet is an upper torque mount and transmission mount.

Traction bars? I thought those were only for leaf springs, well atleast the one I have seen.

The stock rims at 18x7 and are 24.4lb each. the stck tires are 215-45-18s.
My new rims are 20lb each and my new tires are 235-40-18s.

So wrong!
I can lounch at 2250Rpm now with almost no tire spin and almost no wheel hop. 1500Rpm was the max I could do with the stockers with out mad wheel hop and tire spin.
It will pull out of the hole alot faster then befor.
I have alot more traction that is why I have less wheel hop.
Its real simlpe realy. The tires have alot more traction so they dont brake lose so easy now and that translats to less wheel hop.
The lighter rims and tires help also in that there is less unsprung mass for the suspension to try to control. This makes the suspension more efective in controling wheel hop also.

Ill be doing the control arm bushings as soon as prothain releses there kit for the car in a bout 2 months.

Later.

I hope you mean upper control arm bushings...(I bet it is) those would do alot from what's been documented. Anyway, to combat wheel hop (with stock tires) don't launch as hard...ease into it....ask Kritter or Adam, I had little or no wheel hop...although my 60' times were around 2.1-2.2 I didn't have a lot of wheel hop or wheel spin...I can drop the clutch and I have zero (repeat none) issues with my clutch. I do have the poly motor and transmission mount. Adam had a heck of a time launching it, it takes finesse IMO.

who knows he said upper I said upper... he'll have to answer. I would just call them control arm bushings for now....if he thinks the torque braces that go on top of the motor mount will work, I would have to disagree....but, he'll clarify later when he reads this.

I second that the torque braces are not worth it. Just got to look at the motor being revved the other day with the one motor mount and front transmission mount and that sucker doesn't move at all.

thats exactly what I have....its very and I mean very hard to get wheel hop, I can induce it easily.....thats from 30+ runs at the track....I still screw up and it happens from time to time...I usually do a great job launching without wheel hop.
