Decided to investigate a chewed up Rotor on my 06 SS

Got some free time and finally popped the wheel off and took a look at why my rotor is so chewed up. Defiantly not my work

I'm surprised it stopped well at all given one quarter of the front brake pads were not installed correctly.

Based on what I'm seeing, I'm sure the pins weren't lubed, so the inside pad ends up doing most of the work. One of the downsides of Floating Calipers.

And since the pad looks like it was once installed correctly, I'm wondering if this happened because someone tried to swap the outside and inside pads to get some more life out of them.

The real question, imo, is how was this not making one hell of a racket? To the point where you KNOW something is wrong without seeing the destroyed rotor.
