Ebrake Problem
The past few months my ebrake has been getting worse, or rather, I have to pull it up higher and higher for it to actually keep my car from moving. Now, I have to pull it up all the way, until it cant go up anymore, because it's hitting the plastic trim.
So I popped the cover off, and noticed that one of the two cables is way longer than the other (specifically the passenger side cable). It literally looks like this ---\=== My rear pads are about 6 months old. No other issues with my brakes at all. Just confused on how to get that one cable tightened up again...

Is your car still under warranty?
Ops sorry, I just saw you have a 2007. I guess it is not covered anymore

There are several posts on this thread, so you have to pick them out yourself.

Just went through the same thing myself. My passenger side caliper is bad though. The tire spins freely when the parking brake is fully engaged. What I did to even it out though (before I knew the caliper was bad) was the place washers in the passenger side cable in order to even things out. Seemed to work pretty well actually even though it's pretty dumb way of rigging it up.

It's uneven towards the driver side when released but becomes even when you pull it. I figured I'd make up with a stupid design with a stupid solution. LOL

Had my car at Chevy today to get the power steering recall fixed. So I had them take a look at my rear brakes, and the passenger side caliper is "frozen". They said they can fix/replace it for $500+tax. HA! I bought a caliper rebuild kit for $10, gonna give tat a go...
I found that supposedly the only way to fix a frozen caliper was to replace the caliper. So I picked up a new one online for about $165 shipped. Which is a lot less than the 500 they want to charge you granted I'm assuming that's installed.
im having the same problem just bought a 2008 cobalt ss/tc and she was parked this morning. i wake up drive to work i go to park and the ebrake wont catch on anything....wtf....so now it looks like i gotta tear it apart to see whats wrong. when i bought the car the gm tech said they put new back brakes on it but if they did the car might have 500 miles on it since i bought her....UGH
My hunch with this problem is that it's caused by the sliders being ungreased. Obviously this already causes well documented issues with uneven brake pad wear. I think what also happens is that when you pull your brake the internals of the caliper bind up and become damaged if the sliders are stuck. I greased mine really well and plan to regrease regularly so we'll see if I have any more issues. If notmthat may prove my theory. Either way, I couldn't find a good way to take apart the caliper it's self to see how the internals are put together.
i ended up having to replace mine because the ebrake part of the caliper kept seizing half engaged on my drivers side as well, what should have been a 10 minute adjustment to my ebrake turned into $90 and a caliper, rear brake pads and a wheel stud and 1.5hrs time.
my e-brake hasnt grabbed like it should for like 5 years now and i finally just took a look at it yesterday. seems that my driver side is seized. i beat the thing that holds the cable down and it works good for about 3 pulls, then back to the way it was. good thing this thread is here, just don't wanna bleed brakes....
The e-brakes on these cars are garbage. My e-brake has not worked for a while and I just got the time last week to jack it up and look at it. Under normal brake pressure (via pedal) they work fine but when I pull by e-brake, no piston engagement at all even though the cables are moving just fine. I am going to have to replace both calipers.
