Emergency Brake

Can anyone explain to me how exactly the e-brake works? From the handle in the car all the way back to the wheels, what parts are involved, how does it work and so on..

the reason i ask is because my e-brake barely even grabs anymore, after doing one and only one e-brake slide.. wasnt going too fast, and the brake wasnt even applied for very long.. but i'm curious if maybe i stretched a cable, or wore down the brake pad or something.. so yea, someone answer my question, lol

when you pull thehandle up it creates tension on the cable which has 2 other cables attached one from each rear brake. There are usuallya bolt typething youcan tighting to pull thecable tighter. but doing this may also make urbrakes rub if you tighting it to much. my guess would be that it was either to loose in the beginning or the cable possibly streched but i dont see why it would since its a must in standard cars.

just wait till one of the brain people see ur question. they will narrow itdown to a science for ya.

Hahaha, mine barely grabs, has been that way since it was new, and I've NEVER touched the e-brake while the car was moving...some of the SS's seem to have crappy tension in the cable from the factory.

sometimes when i get out i always pull the e-brake up the same amount everytime (so i think) and recently my car will start rolling sometimes.. kinda wondering the same thing as the thread starter.

I dunno, I'm taking mine to get it looked at. No matter how far I pull the brake, it rolls in my driveway, which isn't that much of a slope. It SUCKS.

I had a '96 toyota corolla bare... 3sp auto 1.6L 100hp. That car would take the worst beating and ask for more. I've done countless ebrake turns/slides in that car and it never had a single problem. Granted that really doesn't help you on your issue of the cable being loose as I never gave into temptation in my ss (hard thing to do) but It shouldn't be an issue. Track "racheting" up the parking brake to see if it tighens up... else to the dealer you go!

Maybe its a GM thing, because on my 99 Z24, from the day I got the car, the parking brake was completely useless! Even right after replacing the rear brakes, I COULD drive all day without realizing it was on. Never really got more than 1/8 mile with it up, but no one could ever tell me why it did that. I luckily *Knock on that proverbial wood* have not had any issues like that in the cobalt.

I would definately see if it can be fixed under warranty!
