Ordered my Slotted and Dimpled Premium Rotors from R1 Concepts along with some rear Hawk HPS Pads. I went to Rockauto and got the factory Ferodo HP1000 pads for the front. It's going to be a killer combo for sure!
I got over 51000 miles on the stock brakes (except the rears which I had that pesky caliper sticking problem) with no squeaks or issues except a dulled pedal feel now that they're so worn. The stock rotors have a decent lip going and there is some vibrations when braking at 60+ MPH. It's about time me thinks lol.
I'm so excited to install these!!!

These rotors are okay for light or normal driving but do not auto x or track them. They will crack. Legit slotted/dimpled rotors are expensive as hell. Good job on the stock pads tho. They are awesome.

I've never had a slotted and dimpled rotor crack on me or anyone else I've known to use them. I've had them on my old celica, my 1987 Porsche 944, I had them on my GTO and now I'll have them on my Cobalt. I did Auto-X with my celica with no issues, I tracked the 944 without a problem and I drag raced the GTO with no sign of cracking. All had countless amounts of hard braking and not letting the brakes cool.
I compeletely understand drilled cracking and have seen it, but somehow I haven't seen dimpled have any issues which is why I use them - and yes, the dimpled is ONLY for looks. The slotted definitely helps in the rain, though. TO each their own I guess.

Brakes are on.
Before I say anything, I do work on cars all the time, educated in Automotive Technology, worked in the field and I've done hundereds of brake jobs over the years. This was one of my least favorite to do only because of a couple snags
I've done the rears before but never the front.... truth be told it took me a LONG time to do these brakes. The pins were stuck in my front callipers so I was there for 20 minutes on each side banging them out with a punch. Ultimately, the ends mushroom a bit and it's easy to slip and nick the caliper. After that it was very easy to replace the front rotors and pads and bolt it all back together - As easy as any other brake job except them damn pins lol.
The rears gave me quite a fight for a couple hours. Yeah, really, a couple hours. I have the tool to push and turn the piston in the rear caliper but they would NOT go back in. I got the passenger side done first and worked into the night last night on the driver side. Even when I got the driver side piston to start to compress, the rubber boot started to drag and get hung up on it so I fought with that too.
GM did NOT have the do-it-yourselfer in mind with these brakes. Although very straight forward it was VERY time consuming and frustrating. Just letting you guys who don't do this much know.
After I embedded the pads the pedal felt nice and firm again and it stops very well. I'm gonna have to say that it feels exactly the same as stock (as it should). So these brakes should really shine in wet braking due to the slotted rotors. Dimples, again, were just for show

It feels just like stock since it's dry. I'm really looking forward to braking in the rain with these. The stock brakes are phenomenal but I noticed that if you're driving a while in the rain and you go to hit the brakes after not using them for a while, you get nothing for a split second because of it dispersing the water.
