HELP! Suspension clunking and loose steering
Ok, so here's the basics. I bought my 2007 Cobalt used back in August 2012 and everything was perfect. It rode nice and the steering was tight. Sometime in October I was driving through a round-a-bout and the person in front of me suddenly SLAMMED on their brakes for no reason and I mean really, they came to a DEAD stop. I slammed on my brakes and yanked my wheel to the right. My car slid and the drive side tire slammed into the curb. My car was suddenly incredibly hard to steer and the alignment was WAY off. I took it to a shop because I knew it would need an alignment. They aligned it and told me that I had broken my steering rack so they replaced it and sent me on my way. The steering somewhat went back to normal, only even with the car off if I shake the wheel side to side it makes a clunking sound like it's loose. Also when I'm going over bumps (big or small) the whole suspension seems like it's going to fall off the car. I replaced both lower control arms thinking the bushings were possibly part of the problem, but now I'm thinking the shop screwed something up. I've been driving around like this since October and it is absolutely driving me insane. I want to be able to ENJOY driving my car, not dread it. I've checked the sway bar bushings and the links and everything seems tight, they're aftermarket Moog so the previous owner had to have replaced them.
