How can you tell if you need rack spacers?

Getting an intermittent grinding noise when the wheel goes hard over to either side. More pronounced the faster Im going, but it's not acting like a wheel bearing. I've taken the wheels off and looked and cant see the wheels or tires rubbing. Someone mentioned something about a strut rubbing, but I don't know what that really means. Only thing I can think of is since Im lowered pretty low in the front, is that I may need rack spacers.

So would running without rack spacers cause the noise Im hearing? Any help on tracking it down?

You say rims are not rubbing, just make sure the inside of the rim is not rubbing against suspension, kinda hard to tell if your not looking at the inside of the rim lip.

Slightly confused by the way you worded the question, are you hearing the noise when turning? Or going straight? Is it when you you hit bumps?

I thought rack spacers were for bump steer. It sounds to me like you have a minor rub somewhere.

^^This too. Most people with rack spacers don't need rack spacers. They aren't going to stop your wheel from rubbing, if that is the problem.

I run rack spacers for peace of mind. Sounds like something this rubbing. Check fender liners, panel lips. Running non fitment size? This could play into it.

Ok, it happens when turning. Going straight its quiet. When turning and getting the noise, the more speed the car is carrying, the louder the noise is.

So if its not anything to do with the steering rack, then could a leaking or worn out strut cause the car to create such a noise? Like if the strut is gone, would the car have settled more allowing something to rub?

The spring would keep ride height for the most part, if it's oem. Or you are a big guy/haul a lot of cargo or fatties. It would be sloppier or rougher on bumps if it was a strut. If it's only noisy when turning, sounds like it's a liner rubbing.

rack spacers are for bump steer and are only needed when dropped really low. guys here will say you dont need it and if all your doing is street driving then you reall dont.

if your rubbing the strut it souly means that your tire or rim is rubbing the strut(shock as some call it) while turnng. take off the wheel and look for marks on the wheel or strut. if its not that you have something else going wrong.
