license plate light
license plate light
so the license plate light has always been dim and sucks. i recently put a 4led bulb in there expecting it to be bright. unfortunately because of the way the bracket/light is, the light shines directly into a black bubble and is supposed to be reflected downward and illuminate the plate. this sucks.
im trying to come up with something for that license plate light bracket so the bulb/leds can face downward and illuminate the plate. here is a rough representation in ms paint of the situation. this is a side view of the license plate.
thick/dark brown = plate.
black = reflecting part of license plate lamp housing
grey = clear part on lamp that lets light through
red = led bulb
yellow = light ray path

i tried looking for aftermarket license plate lamp housings where the bulb faces down and light goes directly down onto the plate so it isnt reflected. Gm really had a shitty ******* concept for this light. everyone else has the bulb facing strait down or a festoon type bulb.
even if there is a way to come up with a piece of plastic for the bracket mount and than just makeshift the bulb facing down that would be fine.
also, i tried putting tin foil in the lamp where the bulb reflects downward thinking it would reflect more light than the black plastic... was also fail.. (no it wouldnt be harmful leds are low heat and i mean, ****. u bake and cook and **** with aluminum. its not harmful near the led
anyone have ideas? i hate having a dull license plate at night, i want it light up bright white
also, you think it would be a good idea to cut the bulb wire and completely remove the light fixture, and just tap the wires and put a 3inch led strip ontop shining onto the plate??

how the **** is this in suspension. i was literally just in appearance and hit to go to at the bottom on the thread..
MOVE THIS PLZ
edit. i dont want it super duper bright, but my car is all blacked out and **** - so at night i would like to have bright lights to offset it.
want licensse plate to be like this, to match 6k hid heads/fogs/halos/map lights/trunk lights etc.

yeah i know, thats what i have now. but i just feel like it isnt bright =\
my whole plate is white since its a florida plate, and it seems only the middle is light up from the hot spot, and the rest of the plate is dull. i kinda just want the whole thing illuminated equally and brightly.
also, my car is black so around the actuall plate does a shitty job at illuminating and reflecting the light around for a glow

I put an led in mine. It was like 2 dollars. You can check it out and see how you like it and then get yourself one. I just got a 194 5 led bulb. It's not crazy bright but brighter than stock. Don't want cops to see my **** too well. Haha.
yeah i mean my plate looks like mkurleys minus illuminating around the plate cause the white car helps reflect, but i dont like it. its like, not even across the plate, just basically a hot spot. idk, im gonna close this thread - i might just buy a 3inch led strip and tap the wiring and see how that looks. will post pics if i get around to doing it.
