mine makes the same clunking but only at low speeds but I always had it but it just got more noticable after i put my sportlines on. I lined up the tabs and didnt mess with the bearing (as the directions tell you) and I used an impact wrench to tighten the top bolt. I just think it has to do with the problem that GM recognizes but does nothing to fix it...

impact wrenches risk overtightening the top strut nut and you therefore risk collapsing the bearing race in the top strut plate this has nothing to do with GM issues that they do or do not recognize, but everthing to do with poor installation practices USE A TORQUE WRENCH! 41 ft lbs. This is advice you may not want to hear...

I have a question? How do you use a torque wrench on that nut without the strut rod turning? I couldn't torque it without it turning and ended up using an impact as well. Now I am thinking I should go back and replace those bearings and redo with torque wrench.

I had a similar problem in stock trim. Traveling at slow speeds, when I would turn the wheel, it would clunk in what sounded like the front suspension. After some research I found that it was the steering shaft. What was happening was that it was binding and then breaking lose, which was making the clunk sound. Took it to my dealer, told them what it was, they replaced it and the clunk was gone.

This may or may not be your problem. It probably would have done it before the install. I am not sure if springs would have any impact on the steering shaft, as I don't know if it physically mounts to the suspension. My guess would be it mounts to the engine or the frame somewhere.

Can you let me know if you figure out what it is? I'm having the same issue. I'm not sure if it's the bearings or not. Could also be the steering shaft like the other guy said, but I don't know how to check that myself... Thanks

do the intial assembly while the car is in the air then jack it down with cars weight on the strut torque the nut...its not a big torque figure...good luck

honestly bro that clunking is probably not when your turning... I installed mine correctly but the first time i did it wrong not realizing i didnt cut the bumpstops.... The front is probably bottoming out like crazy causing that clunking noise like mine did and yes its very noticeable

well nevermind see that you found the problem
