Lowered Car Now Problems
Lowered Car Now Problems
I installed sportlines 2day and now when i turn the steering wheel i hear a clunking noise coming from the frount of the car. Any idea whats wrong???
mine makes the same clunking but only at low speeds but I always had it but it just got more noticable after i put my sportlines on. I lined up the tabs and didnt mess with the bearing (as the directions tell you) and I used an impact wrench to tighten the top bolt. I just think it has to do with the problem that GM recognizes but does nothing to fix it...

impact wrenches risk overtightening the top strut nut and you therefore risk collapsing the bearing race in the top strut plate this has nothing to do with GM issues that they do or do not recognize, but everthing to do with poor installation practices USE A TORQUE WRENCH! 41 ft lbs. This is advice you may not want to hear...

I had a similar problem in stock trim. Traveling at slow speeds, when I would turn the wheel, it would clunk in what sounded like the front suspension. After some research I found that it was the steering shaft. What was happening was that it was binding and then breaking lose, which was making the clunk sound. Took it to my dealer, told them what it was, they replaced it and the clunk was gone.
This may or may not be your problem. It probably would have done it before the install. I am not sure if springs would have any impact on the steering shaft, as I don't know if it physically mounts to the suspension. My guess would be it mounts to the engine or the frame somewhere.

everything is tight.. So went to the dealer to see how much those bearings cost and they are $50 a peace lol and i cant return them and it takes a week to order them. So i am going to wait till i take everything apart again and see whats up.
Can you let me know if you figure out what it is? I'm having the same issue. I'm not sure if it's the bearings or not. Could also be the steering shaft like the other guy said, but I don't know how to check that myself... Thanks
well im going to be ripping everthing apart now. I will post my findings for anybody that is having a similer problem.
Well i took it apart and i cant figure out whats wrong. Everything is fine. But when u turn the top of the strut u can feel it poping. So thats my problem but i dont know how to fix it?? Any ideas???

spring compressore then take it apart inspect the bearings replace or grease place the spring coil end in the spring seat properlyline up the tabs and retorque to 41 ft lbs etc...good luck
well i was finaly able to fix the problem! It turns out that i must of got dirt in the bearings some how and the top bolt was alittle too tight. I cleaned and regreased everything and now no more clunking noise

good for you pass the word use a torque wrench! keep it clean....
honestly bro that clunking is probably not when your turning... I installed mine correctly but the first time i did it wrong not realizing i didnt cut the bumpstops.... The front is probably bottoming out like crazy causing that clunking noise like mine did and yes its very noticeable
well nevermind see that you found the problem
