Question New Rotor/Brake pad's issue. Need advice..."squeaking"

Hey guys, just put drilled and slotted rotors and new brake pads on my SSSC on all wheels. Now they 'squeak' under normal braking. When I do a 'hard brake' ...it goes away, when I'm driving 50mph and step on the brakes moderately I hear nothing. When I'm driving 20mph or less and do a light-moderate brake, they squeak like crazy.

Any ideas why and how to fix it. I bought the brake kit through brakeplanet.com/ for our vehicles (specifically for SS S/C also).

I've never heard of new brakes squeaking, I know they have a cadium layer or whatnot on the rotors...maybe that plays into it. Potentially a caliper mounting issue? Brake pads placed in proper ...they fit 'snug' when i put them in. I believe its only the front brakes that squeak also.

Need some help, thank you...

I thought that might be possible but I put them on my SS last thursday and its gotten progessively (though moderately) more 'squeaky'...its so garbage...I went front corroded rotors and pads with 20% life and a steering wheel that 'shook' when I stopped...>>> to a Cobalt SS with brakes that squeak as loud as my s/c whines...uhhh. Irritating.

I would ask them. Agressive pads sometimes squeel. Did you use brake lube on the metal on metal parts in the system?

im having that some problem with my stock brakes...its the front left brake that makes the noise at slow speeds when i brake. brought it to the dealership to get them to check it out, thought it was time for new pads but they ssid i had 6mm left on the pad so they said it was just brake dust. Cleaned my rotor and pads and its still doing it.

291 for 4 rotors and pads? dude that's really, really cheap. I paid more than that just for the fronts i think.

but anyways, did you follow any bed-in procedures? new brakes will squeel, and may even stink, smoke, and burn a little as all the oils and residue are burning off. usually there's some type of bed-in that has to be done when you put on new rotors and pads though.

I emailed brakeplanet and they told me this is normal for the first 500 miles to hear a squeaking noise...they said it should go away after that. I didn't use any brake lubrication on the pads or rotors when I installed them...the 'kit' didn't come with one nor was there any instructions on their website nor in the packages recommending to do that.

I'll keep you guys updated as to how long the 'squeak' continues...I reset my trip odometer so if I go about 550 miles and still squeaking I'll email them to send me out new parts and I'll send the defective ones back. The 'wearing' of the brakes is in a uniform fashion on the rotor and they stop fine.

also, what does it mean to 'bed in' sorry I'm not familiar with that term. thanks in advance (good learning post hopefully coming).

um maybe you should use some high viscosity oil and pour it on your rotors

please dont performance brakes tend to squeak a bit try doing like a 70 to 0 agressive stop some and leave the car overnight something like that maybe its 3 runs look it up on line as a break in procedure something like that.

The semi-metallic pads are known to cause squealing. Ceramic pads are a better way to go. Your wheels will stay cleaner also. You can get 4 drilled and slotted rotors with zinc plating and ceramic pads for $200+shipping on Ebay.

I'm probably going to order some soon. My steering wheel is shaking like crazy!

its been about 560 miles on my rotors/pads and the squeaking is worse. brake planet sent me an email back about putting anti squeal spray on them and how 'squeaking' isn't covered under the warranty. please advise how to proceed.

never heard of 500 miles on brand new pads/rotors and squeaking occuring.

99% gone, used some brake spray on the rotors to 'clean' them and put brake grease on the pads, and its just about perfect.

Jerks should have sent that stuff with the brakes and directions to do it instead of giving me the snub as a paying customer. The inexcuseable customer service was saddening.
