Thumbs down parking brake cable snapped???

My car has been sitting since March with the parking brake cable engaged due to it being on jack stands (transmission problems) but now that i have everything fixed i have been driving it for about 3 weeks and last night in a walmart parking lot i pulled it and the handle went up and fell back down. it did not make the clicking noise just went up and down with some resistance. so i took apart the center console and removed the handle. everything looked normal. could the cable have snapped? would i have felt it break? i have to wait until the weekend to get it back up on jacks and look underneath but i was just looking for some insight as if anyone else has had this happend to them.

p.s. i searched but all i could find was threads about adjusting it.

I fixed mine awhile ago because of that. Unfortunatley it broke again but that time it really broke so I had the dealership fix it for free. They put completley different parts on it or I would take a pic. It's pretty easy to fix I just don't remember it was a long time ago lol.
