Question about the warranty....

I got a question for everyone.....I have an 07' LS coupe and I am planning on putting a set of stock SS springs on. I went to my chevy dealer and asked them about it. The service department told me that while they wouldn't probably even notice that the springs had been swapped, GM can keep tabs on irregularities such as ride height through the dealer's computer diagnotic system that plugs into the vehicle. They went on to tell me that any anomaly, such as incorrect ride height, would result in the vehicle being flagged and the warranty being voided....on the entire vehicle. Maybe i'm wrong, but I just have a hard time believing that all of you voided your warranties to modify your suspension. So....if anyone can tell me whether this is correct or not, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

they cant, the only thing they can void is any warranty due to suspension, like a shock or strut blowing, the springs, etc. If your radiator starts leaking they still have to cover it.

besides... whos to say your car just didn't slowly get lower and lower? Its not your fault GM put some faulty springs on your car . And I don't believe our computer can calculate how high off the ground we are... thats crazy what if I just have a bunch of crap in the car. I call BS

That "warranty being voided....on the entire vehicle" talk is probably used to deter you from modding, but yet I could be wrong. If you want to make absolutely sure the warranty will be there when you need it, then I would suggest you wait the warranty out before you do mods.

IMO, I think suspension mods are relatively safe (for the car) and chances of it going horribly wrong is relatively slim (when they are installed correctly) compare to, let say, power engine mods or people who think using their unpaided off daily car for ECU tuning experiment because they want to be a "tuner" is a great idea.

I have no comment on the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, and exactly how relevant is that to today's trend of people swapping parts out when something goes boom and try to get the factory to fix their mistake is beyond me. One thing I am sure is the factory can and will void your warranty if they find evidence of the vehicle being modify out of stock trim, "IF" they deem necessary.

It doesn't say "if you swap a motor, springs, etc. the warranty covers the new parts you swapped in." It says if you change the springs your motor is still covered unlesss they can prove your springs caused your motor to mess up.

And same goes the other way, if you put on an intake they have to prove the intake caused your struts to blow.

Thats why I said in my post:

Its not likely that youll get "caught" with SS springs....unless you get a nad spring and start to sag and they replace one on you.....
