Replace Control Arms when installing Powell TCABs?

Hi – I’ve purchased the Powell TCABs and was going to have my shop install them along with a new FE5 strut/YYZ combo. Car is an 09 LNF with 72K miles street-driven.

Is it typical to also replace the control arms? Mechanic has suggested it ahead of time (honest guy), but doesn’t know these cars specifically. Thx.

Unless your ball joint and/or forward bushing needs replacing then there's no reason to replace the trailing arm. Even then it's debatable whether you'd need to replace the whole control arm. If you were going to do the control arm then it would have been better to get the arms with the bushings already installed. You basically already made the choice by buying the bushings separately. Usually the reason for replacing the arm is to save the labor of swapping the bushings and ball joints.

What he said. Unless it's damaged, there's generally no reason to actually replace the control arm itself. People usually do it for the convenience of not having to replace the individual bushings or the ball joint.

Thanks. Since they just arrived from ZZP, I could still return them and order them pre-installed in new control arms from CED. That would add ~$350, but I guess would save on labor like you said.
