Anyone have expereince installing a shim kit on the rear or our cars. I need a shim to fix my camber in the rear. I have a 2.2l ls

 

How far off is it? Chances are something is bent... I wouldn't recommend shims.

 

shimming is a normal thing if its just out a little bit. if its way out of wack then yes, something is bent and replacing the axle is the way to go.

 

no its nothing drastic just 1 degree out

 

I had the rear of my 09 SS shimmed out to -1.55 on both sides (that's the most negative I can 'legally' run in SCCA autocross).

The shop did a great job (we also carefully shimmed the brake calipers to get the same negative as the hub/rotor) and I've had no problelms.

well the passenger side is good the driver side needs a shim i guess to fix the -1 degree the toe is out i just dont know where to go to get it done

 

Where do i go to get a shim installed. I don't have any of the tools necessary out here where I am this summer

 

we do them at the dealership all the time.....any good alignment shop should be able to handle it for you

 

im living in kitty hawk for the summer so ill hit up the dealership here at some point. I just got an ailgnment back home in charlotte so I dont need another one I know what degree the toe is off.

 

well I doubt a place will just slap a shim on and not have it on the alignment rack.......they will need to see what shim they need, and make sure it is spec afterward.

 

then im in trouble cause with my coils i cant get on a lift lol. It has to be a in ground lift and I think the closest one is probably somewhere in virginia

 

we use some long boards to act as a ramp to get low cars on the rack.......if I can get a lowered z06 on the rack, I'm sure your cobalt can make it lol

 

Its a lot closer than you think. Im tucking tire the entire way around im lower than a stock z06 by a long shot. So a lowered one would be close to me

 

What dealership do you work at? ill wait to do it when im back in town then.

Use 3 pieces of 2x4 for each wheel. One as a first step, then 2 after that so you can get up high enough.
