SS Brake Pads

http://www.crateenginedepot.com/stor...P1612C192.aspx

Thes are stock SS/SC front brake pads. 2 Questions. First would they fit on 2.2 cobalts? Second are they any improvement over the stock 2.2 pads?

No and no. The 2.2 has Cobalt brakes, the SS actually uses G6 brakes (i didn't know that until I went shopping for aftermarket pads).

If you can get EBC RedStuff for the 2.2, go for it (or Hawk). The stock SS pads suck compared to EBC. I've had both on mine, first with GMPP drilled and slotted rotors and next with PowerSlot.

Off topic, but why are you switching to Powerslot's. Are the GM rotors bad? This will probably be my next mod and I was planning GM.

The GMPP are stock rotors that they have someone drill and slot. Mine warped after one month, just like the stockers.

HOWEVER....

When we took them off to put on the Powerslots we found something interesting. As we were getting ready to take off the front left wheel on the lift, I reached in and grabbed the rotor and found that it would move. Aparently the wheel had cinched down on the center hub but didn't seat against the rotor to clamp it in place. Probably the same thing happened to the original. So I had a free-floating rotor on the front left, which meant it couldn't dissipate het into the hub.

We used a clean-up wheel on the hub on all 4, and used anti-sieze when we installed the wheels. The rotors are all solid, and I haven't had any further troubles.

I originally used GMPP rotors because I thought they would be a proven product, and because Powerslot didn't yet have back rotors. I was wrong, and now Powerslot has rears. My recommendation: avoid the GMPP rotors, go with Powerslot and aftermarket pads. I'm using EBC RedStuff and really like them.

Oh, and the GMPPs rust just like the stockers, while the Powerslots are plated/coated so they don't (well, any rotor will eventually rust on the swept area, but at least the hub part of these don't rust).

I don't brake hard unless it's an emergency, and my front rims still look gray after a few days from brake dust on my SS. I'm getting rid of the stock pads ASAP. Do like LewiSS said and get some nice aftermarket pads.
