The noise isn't in the column its in the electric power steering motor. The plastic gears are noisy and rattle.

i thought that rattle in the column was the column itself. when u go over a rough road or whatever. so what do i have to replace to get rid of the rattle?

Replacing the power steering motor will get rid of the rattle. This part was not serviced separately until the recalls came out. Still not sure if you can buy the motor itself without buying the whole column.

I've got the same rattle in my balt. I've gotten the power steering recall done and when I got the car back the dealership said it was the steering column. $750 in parts that I really dont want to spend
