steering knuckle question

steering knuckle question

are all steering knuckles the same? If i were to get a used one of a (let say LT) for my s/c what additional work would need to be done? Is our bearings pressed in? please info

All Cobalt, Ion, HHR use the same knuckle. The exception being the Cobalt SS/TC

The bearings are not press fit. They are held in by 3 bolts. They can be difficult to remove though and may need to be persuaded out with a hammer.

man that was EXACTLY what I was looking for.
2 cracked knuckles suck lol Once ebay get em here my mechanic can throw those damn things in. thanks again

i would suggest getting the stronger GM Racing Competition knuckle if you managed to crack the stock ones...

over torqued bolts.

stupid yes, im actually amazed the bolt didint snap yet the knuckle cracked i'd imagine the knuckle is forged aluminum and the bolts are alloy

ya my buddy and I did it, i told him to torque down the tie rods with the torque wrench to what it says on the comp (i got torque specs) when i came back they looked fine i figured he did it right... checked steering, seemed fine. test drove short drive fond the knuckle cracked. I cant figure it out he said the torque wrench wouldnt click when he was tightening the bolt.. dunno. sucks but i got them each for 60 just sorta sucks lol

no the steering rack is fine. Had to replace it with a new one since the old one was warn. Its actually beat to **** i can move it back and forth easily with my hand lol
