Thumbs down Strut bolt

Well as you can prob. tell, its not going to be good. Well I have had a mild noise (only really over sharp bumps in my front pass. side for a little why) So me and my friend went back to the garage to see if we can find out what is making the sound. long story short. We/stress/whatever broke the strut mount bolt (one of three). Now my question is what part number is that? how much? I limped the car home and it has been sitting b/c Autozone didn't have the part. The dealership service department is only open 9-5 monday through sat.

Any help would be great!!

Make sure it is a grade 8 bolt. Let me know if you need one, I have 2 extras from when I put the camber adjusting bolts in my car.

do you mean the one that's in the engine bay? the top strut mount? if so, you have to buy a whole new mount, can't just replace the stud. it costs about 50 shipped from gmpartsdirect.com look in the front suspension section, it's called a suspension mount.

when you tighten the bolt, ONLY SNUG with a 1/4" drive. those bolts snap like a hot knife through butter. any more than 10 ft/lbs and you're asking for trouble, even though the torque specs are 15 ft/lbs. i've broken 3 or them. trust me, use a 1/4" drive and as soon as you feel resistance stop.

yes, you absolutely 100% need a new mount.

its not hard to replace, if you know how to do springs. you have to take the whole strut assembly off, compress the springs, take off the top damper nut, and the mount will come off. put the new mount on, put the damper nut, and de-compress the spring, then put the whole assembly back on the car.

here ya go, 42 dollars:

http://www.gmpartsdirect.com/catalog/frameset.cfm

didn't work for the link... go to gmpartsdirect.com, click on catalog, and put in your car info. then click on "Front Suspension" then click on "Suspension Components" then click on "Strut Mount". that's what you need.

the studs are mounted into the mount. when you take the mount off, you'll see why it can't be replaced.

only thing you will need is the nuts, and you can re-use the ones you have now.

besides basic hand tools for the install, you'll need a set of spring compressors, and an impact gun or air tools will be a HUGE help for getting the top damper nut off. if you try taking it off with a regular wrench the whole strut will just spin.

Should be the strut mount but for the front. Don't know why it says strut mount back, that's stupid, it is showing a picture of the front suspension. If you click on the second link that says suspenion components, it just says strut mount.

reading the convo... i suggest that you take this to a shop... working with springs/struts is very dangerous and should not be done unless you fully understand what you are doing.
