Strut question

So I'm trying to take off my strut to put a new top hat on and I can't get this bitch off.. I held the strut down with a pair of pliers and tried turning the bolt on top.. No matter how hard I held the Visecripse and turned the bolt it still moved..
So is there a certain tool to take apart a strut without holding the strut down with pliers?

impact is best, they rust up and it is almost impossible with out alot of torque..... go take the struts to a local firestone and walk around back and offer a tech 20 dollars to release the nut /thread
