struts/shocks for ss/sc?

what (close to oem) options do we have for the ss/sc? i seen the gr2's but not sure they will work, and am just looking for replacements since the oem ones have over 100k on them now. cheapest I could find oem replacements was $400, and would prefer to stay way below that if possible since the car just goes up and down the highway now.

any help is appreciated

<edit> car is an 05 model ss/sc

SS/TC struts are a good choice. I believe they have 30% more damping than SS/SC struts, so they will be a step up and provide better handling. I think the GR2's are more of a base Cobalt replacement. Koni's are a good choice too, but they will cost about $650 shipped at least.

GR-2's aren't the same as stock...they're closer to a cross between LS/LT & SS/NA shocks/struts. You're better off going with stock or SS/TC.

will the gr2's physically bolt up?

I'd rather not waste money on this POS if i don't have to. There's no reason for me to have anything but a basic suspension on the car to drive down a stright highway to work and back home. I have faster stuff in the garage if i want something to handle nice.

for anyone curious, KYB tech said that the gr2's will work, but because of the non-monotube design you will lose some firmness which is ok with me

GR2s will work fine for a commuter car. SS/TC front struts arent even monotube so dont listen to the KYB technobabble.

If you want cheap dampers get KYBs, if you want good dampers/good ride get SS/TC

And of course for the seventy-eleven billionth time, ANY strut/shock for ANY cobalt will work on ANY other Cobalt.

Okay I am impressed so much with the fact that youve got a 2500hp car that its now acceptable that you didnt search to see what pieces were interchangeable.

No, wait....I am not.

Maven, why aren't you a mod?

Selfinfliction...it's nice you have more powerful cars...but you came here asking a very basic question without any detail...you didn't say you didn't care how the ride was...you said cheaper options...so I gave an opinion on what I thought would be a good OEM replacement for the SS/SC...this is a downgrade, not a replacement...but if you want a good price on them.... www.ajusa.com always has them for a good price with free shipping....sometimes they have discounts (holidays usually).

we're not sure exactly, it maxes out the dyno at 1500hp and still has over 2000 rpm left to go. definitely not over 2000hp though

and yes i did look around to see what fit what, but none of the part manufacturers specifically listed the ss/sc as a proper fit(other than the waste of money koni or coil overs etc... ), so i thought i would come in here and ask.

i stopped coming here, cause everyone with a 200hp car that bolted on some parts knows more about REALLY FAST cars and motorcycles than me. people think to small here, the cobalt has massive potential but most limit their thinking to what the company's marketing department tells them

for anyone curious, i got those new kyb struts on and i can tell a HUGE difference......

in the amount of money it saved, and absolutely no difference from the way the cobalt felt when i drove it off the lot 4 years ago with 11 miles on the odometer

Did you wind up going through AJUSA or someplace else? What did you pay? I am starting to need some and I'd rather just put those on with my Sportlines for now rather than spending twice the amount for SS/TC stockers...really no difference or just very little difference?
