What can trigger an ABS cluster light?

After spinning out bending a left lca(and replacing it), and replacing a rear axle complete assy. I still have an abs light. Does this light come on if your brakes aren't completely bled? I still have a little air in the system after bleeding. I know after searching the forum that a bad speed sensor(s) can do this. Is that the electronic sensor(s) at each of the wheels?

Could be bad hub sensors if you have abs

disconnect the battery........wait 20 min........reconnect

i cant guarantee this is it......however these electical systems are quirky and u should always disconnect the battery any time a sensor is involved

I did that, not sure for that long, but it didn't come back until several hours later. I wonder if a saturn redline rear axle and hubs could have something to do with it. Other then that is there a scan tool that can tell which wheel is causing this?

Ions use a Bosch 8.0 ABS, your Cobalt doesnt, if its setting codes for the rear abs.....thats gonna be the issue

A Tech2 or other very high end scan tool is required to read chassis codes.

up to 05/06 you are okay; after that as Maven will tell you, the abs wheels speed signal counts are different...you could have a part that simply is not compatible, or just a bad wheel signal. All this advice from the couch in front of the fire....good luck happy new year

and no non no Ions 04 up /Cobalts 05/06 use a Delphi abs controller....maybe stolen from bosch but delphi just the same....

Well I think they call it Delphi Bosch Cooperative or some such nonsense.....What I thought was important was the 8.0 in the Ions vs the 7.4 in the Balt.....unless my Ion info is faulty.

Well, as I was replacing the rear hubs. I noticed smashed wires running to one of the sensors. And your right qwikredline. Same part numbers for the rear hubs. Irregardless of ion redline or a cobalt ss.

Well actually, the wires were smashed off the "new axle". I believe the used auto parts place did that on atleast one side. They also pinched the brake lines, but probably so fluid couldn't leak.

I reused the harness off my curbed rear axle. Which was fine.

Is the light just on? Does the ABS kick in when slowing down?

If the abs kicks in when you come to a slow stop is the wheel speed sensor. The computer is showing the wheels traveling at two different speeds and thinks your sliding or have lost traction.

If the light is just on and no abs kicks in, I would say to clean all the sensors.
