what do i need to do this
i cant find in the serch but i remember seing a cobalt with brake calipers in the rear instead of the brake drums. if this is possible what mods or what needs to be done?
SS models come stock with 4 wheel discs. there is an upgrade for base models but as stated it is very expensive. Not to mention, it is also a big brake kit, meaning you would have to upgrade your fronts as well otherwise the system would be backwards (you are supposed to have larger rotors in the front, this would leave larger rotors in the rear).
You would also need to have bigger rims to have the clearance for this brake kit.
and.... it is mostly aesthetic. Drums work fine, they just dont look as nice. You really would not see much of an improvement in the braking. So this basically just becomes a $2000 visual upgrade.

The SS model only came in 5 lug so by your logic he would have to get a 5 lug conversion kit too. Why not just find a car that is compatable, I am looking through old hondas and fords for something to retro fit to mine... It seems some old 4 lug civics came with rear disks...
