Key fob receiver dead?

Ok so I've never had a key fob for my 2006 cobalt, I ordered 2 fobs recently and have a programmer.

I go through all the motions to program but it never works, I have an aftermarket radio installed and I'm thinking maybe that disabled the system that allows for keyless entry?

does anyone know about this? Or anything about the fob system I know it's up in the dash on the passenger side but besides that no clue if it's broken and needs replacing.

ive had to pull my horn fuse which in Florida is a bad idea lots of bad drivers I need my horn and need my fob programmed.

im tempted to take to the dealership but I'm concerned the second I pull in and they see everything done to the car they won't touch it with a 10 foot pole.
