cat delete and o2 sensors, question here

so lets say i delete my cats (straight pipes) can i throw a wideband o2 in the cat efficiency o2 sensor spot? I preferably dont want to mess with the upper two narrowband sensors so i can still use closed loop.

Are there any hidden factors that would skew the outputs on that wideband if that happened?

if you get rid of the converter, you can put the wideband any damn place you want and the readings wont be significantly different.

If you use the O2 sensor post cat you will have to tune it out with HPT. Also from what I have read on here if your and 06 then doing so and removing the sensor all together wont effect anything. If your an 07 then this might happen- https://www.cobaltss.net/forums/tuning-131/removed-rear-o2-car-goen-into-open-loop-randomly-157926/

Still cant just remove the rear O2's even on the LS2. You need HPT to tune them out but you might or might not be able to remove and unplug them. I know this cause I have owned an 06 and 04 GTO's 5.7 and 6.0. I got lucky and was able to tune mine out and unplug one of them to install my wb. But a few of my friends havent been as lucky.

I would just drill a new hole about 12-18" from the manifold and install the wb in one of the mid/down pipes. Then you can run the wiring up threw a rubber gromet just above the bell housing, it will enter the interior near the front floor vents. Run your wires where you want from there.

wow thanks. The kit i have has turbo back downpipes with 4 o2 sensor bungs, 2 up front for narrow bands obviously and then 2 in back for cat efficiency (must have assumed youd want widebands) but they give things to block them, but ill definitely doing some major tuning for that and cat o2 sensors are going to be the least of my worries. but that really helps knowing where to wire these things through, i had no idea where it was going.

what made you switch from the gto to the cobalt scene man?

The first (06 GTO) was my fault, just got done doing a bunch of mods and saw what I thought was a good deal on a 99 C5 Vette. So I traded it in on it. Turned out I never got financed and they sold the GTO and I turned in the Vette. The 04 GTO my exwife now drives. Its in both our names but the divorce papers list it as hers. And Im fine with that. I like the balt, good on gas and is plenty fun to drive. I do miss RWD and a V8. But one day Ill get something like that again.

Yeah the rubber grommet is kinda on the drivers side above the bell housing. If you go under the car and look up in that area youll see it. And as I said I would just drill a new hole about a foot or so from the manifold and install the WB there. Youll get a much better reading. And leave all O2's installed. Just tune out the rear O2's if your gonna go catless. There is something in the ECM that even if you tune out the rear O2's and then remove them will trigger a CEL. But whats weired my 06 I was able to tune mine out, and removed/unplugged the driver side. (hell still in my tool box and the car is long gone) and I never tripped a cel, my buddy with and 05/06 tried the same thing and got a cel. Go figure.
