HPT VCM Suite 2.1.16 & Windows Vista - Critical Read

Learning the hard way today I finally got a copy of Windows Vista Ultimate at work today. I reformatted and saved anything on my old computer that I needed before the new fresh install of Vista.

HP Tuners & Windows Vista do not work together from the get go so this is what is needed to be done BEFORE you decide to install Windows Vista as an upgrade or a fresh install since Windows Vista feels it ultimately needs this file in order to operate HP Tuners correctly.

msvcr71.dll needs to be backed up from your old copy of Windows. It is located on C:\Windows\System32.

Please make a back up of the file BEFORE formatting and installing Vista or even going the upgrade path leaving all your data in tact.

Here is an example:

Once you install Vista via Upgrade of Windows XP Home/Professional or go the clean install route follow steps below.

Make sure you move the msvcr71.dll file to C:\Windows\System32 from wherever you made a back up of it.

Proceed to install HP Tuners on your computer.

If you don't have the file installed in the system32 directory this is what the error will look like..

This file is crucial to installation of HPT because it communicates with the appkey.dll file (where your app and serial key are located) and works in Conjuction to .NET Framework 1.1 or Higher.

Here is a working copy of them together.

If anyone needs help with this I will be more then happy to explain/lend a hand. This is for a resource use only.

Some key notes:

USB Support is 10x better then before working with HPT for improved performance and read/write of cals/write entire etc.

Sticky This Anyone?

Did you copy HP tuners over from your backup? It's possible that you just needed to reinstall from their install disk.

re-installing from inital CD they gave me did the same thing. Copying over inital install also yielded same results.

weird. maybe your computer already had a copy of that file from another program? I did a fresh install with nothing installed. You had most likely bought a computer with programs already loaded that use those shared files.

On Sunday the 28th I decided I was going to purchase a new computer On Tuesday when vista officially hit the market.

On Monday the 29th you made this post...which needless to say made me kinda nervous with the install.

Tuesday came, I bought the computer

Came home, hooked it up and installed hpt without a hitch.

So I was very happy IT WORKED WITHOUT A HITCH after reading your thread. lol
