MAF Tuning
MAF Tuning
I have a few questions im trying to tune my car and im trying to start out by tuning the maf i have a few questions do i tune it in open loop or closed loop i have the histrogram set up along with my wideband hooked up so when i log how do i drive the car and for how long then im assuming all i have to do is copy and paste special into the maf table then flash it and repeat but do i reset the fuel trims every time i reflash it or no and how do i know if its doing anything all help is appreciated thanks I have a 07 SS/SC

Well I don't know about these other guys but I used the closed loop method. I did my normal driving trying to hit as many cells possible without going into PE. Lucky for me my drive to work is about 30 min so was able to do this over a few day period with out really wasting any gas. Anyway, I had to make a MAF table histogram with LTFT%. I then copied and special paste, multiply by %, into the Editor MAF table. Smoothed it out and repeat. The closer to 0 LTFT I got I pasted, multiby by 1/2%. When it was all 0 +/- 1% I went to the next step
WOT using the wideband, since I don't have the Pro Version of HPT I'm not sure how that would work. I had to improvise my copy and paste method for the WOT MAF tuning portion. You may want to disable you COT and Piston Protection for this part, be sure to turn them back on afterward though or you may break later down the road....

I usually start by failing the MAF and getting the VE tables as close as possible. Then re-enable the MAF and disable LTFT and create a histogram to log AFR error % vs MAF table (can't remember the exact name of the table, might be MAF vs. output frequency?). If you have a wideband and the PRO version you will be able to tune MAF right into WOT airflow values of the table. I usually set my PE flat at 11.5 across the board while doing this and then after I'm done the MAF tuning I will reset all the PE values to where I want them. You want to hit as many cells as possible obviously and I will usually interpolate the last few cells of the MAF table since you won't actually hit them but if you ever get into drastically colder whether you will get into those cells
