Question about hp tune with trifecta

Hey guys, I have had my trifecta tune (2006 LE5 cobalt) for a few months now and am switching to hp tuners. My question is will my PCM be locked? Or will I be able to write/ change the trifecta tune with hp tuners? I believe I have the E67 ecu

It's really a crap shoot to be perfectly honest but in the vast majority of cases in my experience you MUST flash the stock tune file back via Trifecta first in order to be able to pull/write anything via hptuners. I have heard of a few cases where a full write of a stock file via hptuners will work, but trust me, in most cases it will not. Your best bet is to just flash the stock file back using the EZFlash software and then have your new tuner do as he needs with hpt. It will just save you a ton of headaches.

Damnit haha. Reason I asked was because I was selling my EZ flash cable and wasn't sure of the answer to this. I thought because of the switchable tunes on the ss/tc and the hp tunes over a trifecta tune I thought it would work. Guess I'll need to find someone close now when I get HPT. Thanks for the answer man!

The hp tunable trifecta tunes are special, as mentioned above when i've encountered a trifecta car, you can't do anything with it via HPT. I could try to force a write entire, but it's risky.

force write entire works sometimes.. if the car is running on a "custom" os so it has select a tune or something then you cant as it wont register in HPT as a valid os id

Absolutely! That's what I had to do with elecblue06's LE5 when I switched him from Trifecta to HPT and it gave me no issues at all.

I've tuned lnf's, lsj's and a boosted le5 on e85 but nothing n/a. With that being said, I'm sure a n/a le5 on gas couldn't be any harder to setup than the boosted le5 on e85.

Let me know if you need any help and I'll see what I can do.

Check out my thread over on the HPT forum. To see all of the attachments you will need to create an account. I tend to go further in to my tune then most, so it may have more info than you want.

Also, another thread from a guy that was tuning a LE5 Sky.

Sorry guys but another question, will I still be able to log with hpt even with my trifecta tune? And if I only get credits for my 2006 LE5 can I still log other cobalts like 09 LNF?

You can log any vehicle that is supported by HPT without purchasing credits. Credits are only required to edit a tune. You can even pull existing tunes from any vehicle that is supported and look, but not modify their tunes.
