Tuning an LS

Well im pretty sure I have an LS because its 4 door. Anyway to tell between LS and LT?

Well if it is an LS what are some things to do that I can upgrade my car with? Just a note im only 16 so my budget is kinda low and I dont know exactly what im doing but I like cars and im thinking of making it more of a hobby.

So if anyone has any suggestions feel free to post.

well most likely theres a badge on the back saying LS or LT.

not to be an ass, but you sound like you're new to the modding scene so i highly doubt your car is modded.

The number of doors has nothing to do with it, wheither is an LS, LT and even the SS comes in 2 or four doors now.

If its an LS, it should have steel wheels with hubcaps. Steels wheels are not available on Lts. I also believe that the LTs come with power windows and locks standard while they are available on an LS, they are an additional option.

And of course, if its am LS it will have an "LS" on the trunk and if its an LT it will have an "LT" on the trunk. (Assuming no one has debaged it)

Basic bolt ons are the easiest options, intake, 2.4 intake manifold, header, downpipe, catback exhaust.

First off, welcome, second off check if you have SAI. If you do, you can't get a header unless you flash out those damn Cali-emissions.

I know my car isnt modded.
Hence why I made the topic.

Also can anyone give me some average prices for some things suggested? Also things that were suggested are the easy to install or would I have to have them installed for me.

EDIT: Just ran out and checked and there is no tag saying LS, LT, or SS. So yeah.

yea i know it's not modded i meant to say that seeing as it hasnt been modded it should still have original badging on the trunk so you can tell if it's an LS or LT. sorry if it was confusing.

also for the things listed

intake - roughly 200 - 250ish

exhaust - pretty expensive (400 - 700) somewhere around there however you could piece together custom ones for about 200 to 250 or maybe less

My windows are manualy roll up. Not auto.

1. What are SAI?
2. How do I flash out Cali-Emissions? Do I need to do that?
3. What are basic bolt ons.
4. Also what are some good brand name parts that run that average prices being listed?

1. SAI is the secondary air injection system. look on your airbox (i do hope you know what that is) if there is two hoses coming off it then you have SAI if there's only the hose going to the throttle body you're fine.

2. you don't NEED to, but if you plan on getting exhaust headers anytime soon you will need to because SAI prevents aftermarket headers being installed.

3. basic bolt ons are things like intakes and intake manifolds. easy stuff that doesn't require a weekend to do.

4. injen intake about 250$
Crate Engine Depot 2.4 intake manifold 275$
Catback exhaust anywhere from like 450 to 800
headers- can get used LSJ headers off a supercharged for dirt cheap
Downpipe- same as above.

You said you had an 05 so...

1. You don't have SAI so don't worry about it.
2. Don't worry doesn't apply
3. Air Intake, Intake Manifold, Exhaust manifold/header, downpipe, exhaust, then a tune

4. Check with vendors like CrateEngineDepot.com, TurboTechRacing.com, Clear Image Automotive, and various others on this site. Go to the Supporting Vendor section of the forums. You are looking for parts for the 2.2L.

Also, look at the stickies at the top of the 2.2L section. There is tons of information in there that will get you moving in the right direction.

Last but not least. You finish everything with a tune from Trifecta. They run in the 250-300 range and only should be done after you install all other parts you plan on installing.

Thanks. One more thing. Where do I go to get a Trifecta tune? Are there any places in Nebraska that you know of?

Well Trifecta is a company that sends you a device that puts the tune on your car. I had it for a long time. They do great work. They can even make any changes you want and even data log your car and revise the tune to fit your car. Talk to Clear Image Auto when you are ready for a tune. They will hook you up with Trifecta.

start by lowering your car with Sportlines(cause it probably looks like a monster truck), put some 17" or 18" rims on it with 225wide tires...and then start with possibly like an Ingen AEM or K&N cold air(CAI), and if added with 2.4 intake manifoldyou can get some noticable gains, get a catback exhaust...such as Magnaflow, or GMPP...and a header/down pipe(dp) like Clear Image or ZZP is good. AND THEN TUNE IT !!

thats a basic bolt-on setup that will look sound and drive great.

ohhhh and tint you car! because im sure its like your sitting in a fish bull

Parts are here: https://www.cobaltss.net/forums/2-2l-l61-performance-tech-45/aftermarket-l61-cobalt-parts-27680/

Also im more for performance first looks last.
Im trying to save for college yet I want to use my car as a hobby so I cant spend everything I have.

I had my mind set on K&N CAI.
A catback exhaust
Some sort of header
Also a intake manifold

Tint you mean like windows right? lol

Like I said I work part time and am trying to save for college at the same time because im a Junior in high school but im loving my cobalt already lol.

Sportlines not only lower your car, but they improve handling as well.
