Aftermarket L61 Cobalt parts

6-20-07: Exhaust added
11-16-06: Many parts added, including downpipes.
10-30-06: Added parts
9-25-06: Updated air injection intake info
9-8-06: Added Head Gasket section
8-25-06: news concerning exhaust manifold secondary air injection and added Cam shaft section.

Intakes
Currently, the K&N system is the only one known to accomdate 2006 cars equipped with air injection.
1. GMPP
2. Injen
3. AEM BTW, AEM uses CobaltSS.net as an independent product review source!
4. K&N
5. Fujita
6. Weapon R Couldn't find a Cobalt specific application

Internals
1. GMPP - Get the new PDF catalog HERE
2. Ferrea Valve train parts. Download their catalog for Ecotec part numbers
3. Eagle Rotating assemblies (cranks and rods)
4. Wiseco Pistons
5. Patriot Heads Cylinder heads
6. Bates engineering. They make all kinds of Ecotec parts.
7. Diamond Racing. They make a unique pistons that keeps the 10:1 compression ratio but dishes the top for forced induction.

Cam Shafts

L61, LSJ, and LE5 cams are not interchangable. L61 and LSJ cams can be used in an LSJ head on an L61 block, but that's a pretty advanced modification.

2007 L61's now use a cam position sensor. These cams will not work on that engine.

LSJ cams have a position sensor as well. I don't know if they may now work in a 2007 L61 head.

1. GMPP - Part #88958648 from the new 2006 Catalog
2. Comp Cams
3. Level Zero

Head Gaskets
There are two different types of head gaskets for the L61. One is the stock design. The other uses O-rings that must have recieving grooves machined into the block and head. The stock configuration should be good for applications under 500HP when used with head studs. I'm looking for sources, so please post your links.
1. Cometic

Headers
In late production 2006, secondary air injection was added to the design of the car. This is an emission control system that routes fresh air into the exhaust manifold via a mounting provision on the manifold itself. Aftermarket manifolds for this car DO NOT have this mounting provision. 2005 model cars should have no problems.

My friend the has an SS S/c bought the AEM intake for his SS, didnt like it and seeing as how Mommy pays for everything just was gonna throw it away, so ofcourse i took it. To attach it i removed the Airbox and lower piping then connected this piece off the acordian pipe and put the MAF in. It rests in place fairly tight but I have a 3 inch lagbolt sitting in my glove box so i can secure it in more. I'll get pics when i get home. if you Like

While I don't argue that might work, it's not the focus of this thread. This thread specifically lists engine related parts manufactured specifically for the L61 Cobalt.

Just to update this thread a little I found out that the GM performance air intake and performance exhaust manifold (header) are available for sale now. The price for the intake is a bit more then the average aftermarket one, but it comes with the added bonuses such as factory covered, no cels and no oiling ect.. The exhaust manifold looks nice and clean and is all honed out plus the price sounds good for the nice quality.

Part numbers:

Intake: 17800653

Exhaust manifold: 19131972

The price for the manifold I believe was around 350 which in my opinion is a good price.

I also spoke with an Area Accessories Manager that would be interested in group sales. I will probably try to organize one in the future once I can purchase one of these items.

Any downpipe will work on the 2.2, any Header will work on the 2.2, and Exhaust will work on the 2.2

The blocks are the same between all 3 cobalt motors, just different strokes/bores etc.

This is why we have a SUPPORTING VENDORS SECTION.

Just look around there, you'll find em.

And by the way, the new cams from GM are camshaft blanks you have to grind down to your specs to use.
