What Gear To tune in.

When you guys are tunning your AFR, and your Timing and all other things. Do you guys go wide open throttle in 2nd or in 3rd gear.
I think its easier to look at the afrs in third gear since it goes by slower, however, I dont like the fact that on each run I have to get to 100.

your really supposed to be tuning in 4th gear , but if your complaining about going 100 then i dont know what to tell you about 4th , stick to 3rd gear pulls , or go to a dyno so you dont have to go 100

well i mean on a dyno they run 4th gear, so i dont know why it would be any different on the street , thats the benifit of a dyno is that you dont have to go 140 to tune your car

ok well you could either a) suck it up and go fast so you can tune yourself , b) fork out the money to tune it on a dyno which is safe, pick your poison, just dont bitch about it

its like me going and buying a puppy and then bitching when he pisses on the carpet , you know your gonna have to tune on the street if you bought hp tuners and wanted to do it yourself

I tuned and dyno'd in 3rd. Our cars like that.

I tried 4th gear but it takes a long time to hit 7,000rpms and by that time temps are very high.

Stick to 3rd gear.

what the hell, First of all, YOu dont HAVE to go in 4th gear. Thats for starters, Since people also dyno in third. If you know anything about tunning youll know that the AFR and the Timing will be the same in each gear, Do you have HP tuners, Have you ever tuned a car before. Just because you dyno in 4th doesnt mean you tune in 4th. Im sure NOBODY here tunes in 4th, your trying to defend a false point.
I was asking people who have actually TUNED their cars on the st, to see wether they have done it in 3rd or second gear. Thats all, I didnt ask anyone who has never tuned if I should tune in 4th which is ridiculous.

Hey Ljavy

I was doing some tuning yesterday with a bud of mine and we were logging the runs from a 40 roll in 2nd then into third to 7000 rpm WOT. Seemed to work well. I seem to be going lean (10.5 afr) up in the 5500-7000 rpm range. trying to fix it.

I was also wondering this too. Do your a/f ratios vary gear to gear? Seems like I have a 11.5 to 11.8 a/f ratio WOT in 3rd but in 2nd it's 11.9 to 12.3?!?!

DUde, do you know what HPtuners is, Do you own one, have you ever seen it in person, What r you doing in my thread, like I said, this is for people who have tuned before.

if I dont know much, thats why I started this thread, to clear my doubds, Obviously I cant clear doubts with someone who has no experience with tunning. SO get out man.

Is it better to have an AFR that drops immediately when you go WOT or to have it slowly decline to stoich.

I've got my enrichment rate set at 1.00, it's pretty quick to get to 11.8 but I might set it to 2.0 so its a bit quicker.
