I don't have any experience tuning, but common sense tells me that I think 4th would be ideal for tuning, only beacuse your IAT2 temps are likely to be higher. (longer pull, more heat soak, etc) If theory, if it's safe in 4th, it should be safe in 3rd, 2nd, 1st, etc.

If you tune 3rd and push it to the edge, a 4th gear pull has that much more potential for problems. Of course, if you never plan on winding it out in 4th, then who cares, right?

Ok, i've got a question. Mostly, when I tune my car in third gear, and happen to do a 4th gear run while being stupid on the street, I someteims get knock at the top of 4th, but yet my 1-3 gears are knock free.

When I was getting knock in 2nd gear....yes 2nd gear at wot after 4000 rpm, 3rd gear wot i got knock at around 2000 rpm, 4th gear i got knock at around 17 lbs of boost, and 5th gear I got knock anything past 8-10 lbs of boost....Does that seem right? I mean it's not right, but can't you also start getting knock in higher gears like that if you don't tune it in a higher gear???

I think I'd rather tune in 4th gear but it's not something I can do since 4th gear and speed limits don't get along too good. I know high load low RPM causes know like your talking about in 5th gear. Just keep it revving lol

Just because you dyno in 4th doesnt mean you tune in 4th. Im sure NOBODY here tunes in 4th, your trying to defend a false point.
I was asking people who have actually TUNED their cars on the st, to see wether they have done it in 3rd or second gear. Thats all, I didnt ask anyone who has never tuned if I should tune in 4th which is ridiculous.

i wouldnt agree with this. i found that with the car reving through 2nd and 3rd way faster than 4th gear it gave me different AFR in each gear. The car doesnt have as much time to "load up" on boost in 2nd as it would in 3rd or 4th. look at your logs very carefully and you will see that there are different cells hit in the VE table as you run through the different gears. so you will have to tune slightly different areas of the VE table and spark table depending on which gear you are in.

so with that being said i would tune in each gear. 2nd 3rd and 4th. just doing runs in 2nd or 3rd will get 4th gear really close to the afr that you want but i found that to really fine tune it you have to make pulls in each gear.

We did my tuning @ WOT in 3rd.

cant you log your 2nd and 3red gear pulls at the track? you can safely go 100mph right there...

FLAMES what? I want flames. How do we do this? Do we need to put a spark put a spark plug in the exhaust or what. Set the dfco to not engage.Need more info. flames are cool.

My car seems to go rich in 3rd gear also 1 and 2 mint 3rd starts going rich.I have the cat over temp and piston protection disabled.Has anyone figured this out yet?

Whats funny is the guys in here talking about tuning are referring to 10.5 as lean, ive seen lots of other stupid errors on the thread also i wouldnt trust much in this thread...best of luck to your tuning llavy, i would say tune it out in each gear and make sure everything is good. Typically cars are tuned on the dyno in 4th mainly for the A/F ratio purposes.

I believe the person who said it in this thread was being sarcastic.
