they aren't junk, he'll probably beat you if you race from a dig. other than that, it'll be close.

I raced a BMW 330 at the track last year (I'm not sure what year it was) when i was completely stock and he got 14.91 @ 98.3mph and I got 14.78 @ 97.8 mph... so pretty much neck and neck.. I knew keeping all my timeslips and writing down who i raced would pay off one day.
roll you will crush him. Dig, you will probly win, so long as you dont fubar the launch. Remember, ITS AN AUTO.
You didn't beat an M3 in a stock SS/sc unless it was a 1st gen or maybe a 2nd gen. Maybe.
To the OP, a 330 is good for mid high 14's. The one's to watch out for are the 335's. Twin turbo - stock mid 13's, with a tune they can run 12's.
Slight disadvantage. New auto's are pretty close to a really good manual driver, so depending on the driver, maybe not a disadvantage at all.
If you can launch and drive stick well I don't think you'll have a problem.

Auto should give him a disadvantage. The comp will never shift faster and at the right RPM's like a human driver will. Unless the comp is programmed to, you should be fine.
Only real advantage going to autos are consistancey, and a turbo auto doesnt lose boost.
Nah. Manuals typically score better 1/4mi times than autos. Unless the auto is tuned just right, then it will be closer to a stick. The new gt's have a real close 1/4mi time ( i think its 13.9 for the auto and 13.5 for the stick ), however the sky RL and GXP autos have typically been netting better 1/4mi times due to no backpressure loss on the turbo. Few and far between on those have manuals that run faster.
It all depends on the setup. That BMW would probly do better wout that tiptronic crap and with just a stick.
NTM manual trannys are lighter than autos.

There are plenty of new Mustang GT's that run 14's with manual transmissions. A manual S197 might be 1-2 tenths quicker than an auto stock.
Hot Rod magazine tested a S197 manual to a 13.9 et when they first came out. That was with a pro driver, not a magazine hack.
Simple fact is that most manual transmission driver's can't shift half as fast as a computer controlled tranny can.
A kid who can't figure out how to use the manual shift option of his automatic would definately have an advantage over the manual trans 330 in this case.
