06 ss/sc vs. 00-04 Mustang GT
06 ss/sc vs. 00-04 Mustang GT
So i'm driving with my brother next to some younger kids in a 00-04 Mustang GT. The car had an exhaust; I don't know what other mods. He asks me the usual "is that thing fast" i told him no it is not, and that a stock civic will beat it. (lol) Well he asked if I wanted to race, and I said no, b/c i wasn't feeling very frisky I guess. Then his buddy goes "yea cuz we know that you'd get "paddled"" So then I tell him we'll see....so I turn down the next street, and the road is wide open, no cars nearby, nobody on the sidewalks. On the third honk of the horn, we take off from about 35. I pull on him at first, then shift into 3rd, and he pulls up even with me, then we shut it down at 80 dead even. (traffic came up)
He asked me what mods I had and I told him just a CAI. He didn't believe me. He said that he "knows" that my car cannot whine that loud with just a CAI. Well anyways he didn't believe that I didn't have a smaller pulley... I guess the CAI adds a lot of scream. Anyways sorry for the long story..just wanted to share

There fun
I raced 1 back home from a dig..he took me off the line but i slowly pulled on him...good run man.
Surprised you didnt pull on him. Raced a new 05-06 GT the other day(was an auto, thats probably why) and we went from 45-90. Had him by about 3/4 car length when we shut down. He was so embarrased after that cause his gf was with him. wouldnt even look at me and made a quick, no signal, right. Me and my gf just laughed at the guy for a minute. Im bone stock btw.
Be careful when using the M-Word around here.
Some in these parts still belive 99-04 GT's are high 13 second cars stock.
As for stock ones they are lucky to see mid 14's, they can launch awesome but after 80mph they fall flat on there face. And no guys gears don't change that.
I used to pick on 99-04 GT's all of the time but now they aren't even worth my time unless they lope, whine or purge.
I prefer embarassing 05-06 GT's now.

we are right here laughing at you guys the fact are all there either it was an auto or a bd driver or he wasnt even trying a gt stang can run a 5 flat 0 to 60 and if we has mods then we will kill u even worse but the stang boys will be here soon

I don't see what there is to talk about. After the initial hit, a Mustang GT with an extra passenger starts pulling on the Cobalt then they shut down. If anything, you should be the one saying... "Yeah, he must have had a Supercharger because everyone knows that an SS/SC will DEMOLISH a 99-04 Mustang GT from a roll."
Anyway, nice run, Seth. You'll have to go find him again now that you've got S2.
well to put it down to an easy point.... i can outrun 05-06 GT Stangs with no problem.... auto or manual...... half the time I find them with horrible drivers, but last time i was at the track, I ran my 13.288@110.4mph and the race after that I ran a 13.34 against a new GT stang and he ran 13.870...
Not to mention man that with a stage two these little Cobalts can easily get you from a roll, and i know for sure that i can get you from a roll..... Come back in here again mustang man when you have your car running above 102mph in a trap speed..... There are plenty of Cobalts in here that are runnin 105+ and one of the guys hasn't ran his car ever since he got the stage four and he put a half car on me running 110 in the traps with NO TRACTION..... So shut up and get your stupid Mustang out of here....

By the way, my car traps at 105 to 106 consistently, even from a effortless idle launch. Keep in mind my stang is only at 8.5lbs of boost, very safe tune and its a V6.

A 99-04 GT will not run a 5.0 0-60 maybe a 05-06 GT.
And from a roll a 05-06 GT is an easy kill with Stage 2, the one and only advantage any Mustang GT 99-06 has is a better launch. Thats all the 05-06 may breath a little better than the weak 99-04's but they still lack any top end.
A Stage 2 SS/SC would most likey loose to a 05-06 GT in the 1/4 but thats due to the launch.
If both got a 2.0 60ft the SS/SC Stage 2 would pass the GT.
I love how Mustang guys get all bent out of shape when people with F/I 4 cylinders walk all over them.
I like whooping them in my SS/SC but my Camaro SS's were just plain fun.

I wouldn't underestimate the GT with a good driver, I've seen TC'd 05 GT's run 12's all day long from idle on street tires, and seen some running higher boost get 10's. It's all about what you put into it. I've also seen TC'd Neons run 11's and put a hurtin on some Cobras.

Also, what kind of 1/4 times were you running stock pre-swap?
Before I continue to post, I would like to add that I like Mustangs, especially the Cobra's.
Mustangs are faster out of the hole because they are RWD w/ 320ft/tq. Hookin up is not a problem.
Cobalt's are FWD, so off the line, in order for a Cobalt to beat a Mustang GT in 60' times, the driver will have to be more skilled at racing than the competition. Period. A Mustang doesn't know what massive wheel hop feels like, or how hard it is to overcome such a thing.
One thing is for sure. A Cobalt is cheaper by a few thousand dollars. I believe you can buy a loaded Cobalt SS/SC stage 2 and LSD Recaro seats package for less than 18,000 bucks. Try to buy an 06' Mustang GT for that. Ford isn't as generous as Chevy. Another thing...Cobalts weight 2900lbs, and with stage 2 has somewhere around 240hp; 220ft/tq. Mustangs, although I'm not sure about the weight, but I do know they are in excess of 3500lbs w/ 300hp, something Ford is not proud of. That's the number one weakness of the Mustangs. Now if I calculate this right, a Mustang GT can run about .2 seconds faster w/ the average driver on the quarter mile than a Cobalt SS/SC w/ stage 2. If you dump a few thousand dollars into that 18,000 dollar car, such as Ingalls Stiffy, CAI, a custom 3in exhaust and a high flow custom header, and add 2 lbs of boost to the car. You'd be pushin in excess of 250whp, which is about 300hp @ the crank, which matches the Mustang. Only now the Cobalt has the upper hand since it weighs atleast 600lbs lighter. At this point, roll on or dig, the Cobalt SS/SC is faster altogether, for only 20,000 dollars. Now if you want a low 12 sec car or faster car then go with the Mustang because it has far more resources to make it faster. We won't get into how the Cobalt will rape the Stang in road courses. It just handles better than a Stang and that's all there is to it. All in all, both great cars though.

Thanks dude.
You have quite the sleeper there. If I staged against you at the track, I would be shocked at the ET's / Power you are putting down.

A few points, my stang weights 3480. I just had it weighed at FFW Norwalk. The new stangs also have much better handling and something like a 48/52 weight distribution. A S197 actually won a drifting contest this year. So I think in that department, they have improved. But yes, the weight does bother me as compared to my old Fox.

i was deadeven from a roll with a 05 or 06 mustang gt before my intake and properly gapped plugs, but from a dig i know he would take me with the weight transfer and all of rwd. I still want to race a 99-04 gt from a dig and/or roll. and i want a rematch with an 05+ from a roll

i was referring to when i was running my 3.4L V-6 with 800 bucks worth of mods that had me running 14.8's..... Back then i was still in high school and i could scrape any 3.8L stang that challenged me.... Only the sticks down at Edgewater would run 15.5's.... my friend Andy got cams and headers for his and he managed a 14.9... He was my only challenge....
Do you any of you stang guys get **** for building up V-6 stangs? Cause believe it or not i get **** from fellow grand am owners around my place that are trying to build their 3.4's to beat me, but so far nooone has even come close to my 13.288
