06 ss/sc vs. 97ish trans am

Got bored last night so i figured i would take my step brother for a ride since i installed my cai friday.. Was heading back home when i see a trans am and a hemi ram fixing to race froma light. I get behind the trans am at the light, and u hear them start revving a little bit. When the light goes green they gun it so i figured id play along too... Within the middle of second gear me and the trans am both pass the hemi and get a descent lead on him then let off... Get to the next stop light and the dodge turns off so i get up beside the trans am.. He revs a little bit so i rev back just to hear my cai a little bit, hehe.. Light goes green and i jump him off the line somehow (still not sure y he didnt kill me off the line) and get about a car length on him, hit 2nd gear and he starts gaining on me, gets to about my door and i start to go in 3rd but miss, quickly recover and his door is at my front bumper then we both let off...

2nd race went a little better.. Was from a 40 roll, i hear him hit it so i followed and instantly pulled a half a car, went to 3rd and he gets about a car on me by 100. Was very suprised that he didnt beat me badly.. We get to the next light which was about a mile down the road and he rolls his window down so i roll my window down.. He actually asked me if my car was turbo, lmfao.. what an idiot.. I told him it was supercharged and that i was out testing out my new aem cai.. We both gave congrats on each others cars and went our seperate ways... Was still in shock that i didnt get completely eaten alive.. All in all was a fun night, and hope to run into him again 1 day.

Sounds like his TA had a LT1, if it was an LS1 the results would have been different. I dont think the TAs get the LS1 engine until 98.

yea im pretty sure it was an lt1, but still figured hed beat me worse than what he did.. Could hear that he had an exhaust, not sure of anything else tho...But yea definately had my adrenaline going. Yea ls1 would have completely slaughtered me.. woulda been a turtle with a 50shot vs a rabbit with a turbo.. no competition.. Although i never asked him what year it was, just know it was around 95-98..

The Trans Am got the LS1 in 1998. If the car had the hex pattern tail lights, it was a 1998 or later. If they were the flat bar pattern it was 1997 or earlier.

<1997

1998-2002

Nice race man..I know a guy that has a 98 Z28 with SLP Loudmouth exhaust and an intake and I REALLY want to run him. I think I may actually walk on him though. He likes to just hammer the gas and hope for the best (auto) I think his best quarter mile time was like a 13.8, and my car should be doing AT LEAST that with my mods. Anywayz...Congrats on the props again.

Guess that may have been cuz me and the ta raced right in front of him and i got the ta by a car up to 100.. Would have been bad tho cuz dave(T/A) smoked the mustang bad.. The video i have, had the ta till bout 100-105 then he comes by me, but just creeping by..

1 more also.... Me and the T/A was playing around when a ricer civic(half a back bumper body kit, non painted) tried to get about 600ft back then fly by us, but we waited for him to get at our back bumpers and gunned it, i got the win tho, beat the T/A by a car... He said his car cant do anything from a 40 roll.. But we put multiple cars on the little civic(meanin around 8 or 9 by 100 with him doin the fly by, lol)

I hate that stupid "can't drive bullshit"

Please read and educate yourself:

an LT1 had 275 horse (ss's which were reborn in 96 had 285 due to having an extra cat convertor)...better yet here is a break down.

97Z28:
3500lbs
275 horse
2:73 gearing (auto) 3:23's (stick) (in ls1's they had 3:23's auto and 3:42's stick)
14.2-14.5 quarter

05 SS/SC
2850lbs
240-250 horse
4:05 gearing
14.3-14.6 quarter

Not very hard at all to see why stock for stock they would be a good race from a stop...from a roll a stock SS/SC will beat a stock LT1...I should know...I have dragged and owned more LT1's and LS1's than probably anyone else on this site.

Not trying to be a dick...just stating facts.

hahaha sounds strange I know but it is true and yes it having an extra cat is the reason it had ten extra horse.

I will explain:

They have a y pipe on the car and all the exhaust was going through ONE cat before splitting off into the dual exhaust. By adding an extra cat one on each side of the split it effectively allowed the exhaust to move faster by restricting the flow through only one cat. Got it? If that doesn't help I can further explain

wait so the removed the y-pipe and made true duals? that would make perfect sense, but that isn't BECAUSE they added an extra cat

oh for christ sake gro...stay with me here buddy

They have both headers running into a y-pipe...that ypipe goes into a single muffler that then splits the exhaust into two to give it a dual exhaust look...they had the ONE cat placed in the single spot on the ypipe. pre 96.

In 96 on they had a CAT on each side of the y portion on the ypipe...this GREATLY increase flow, neither being true dual (one exception see below)...I have an article on it somewhere..would you like it? maybe I just suck at explaining it.

Here is the difference in years for you:

93---Speed Density
94- 97 Mass AIr Flow

93-95 single cat, with the exception of a few 95 CA cars had Dual
96-97 Dual cats

93-95 OBD1
96-97 OBD2

93-95- 275 hp
96-97 285 hp
