2.4 SS v. 03-04 Civis Si v. MazdaSpeed Protege'
2.4 SS v. 03-04 Civis Si v. MazdaSpeed Protege'
I went out huntin the other night (Saturday night)..nice cool weather, 1/4 tank of gas windows down re-loading the 80s and enjoying the weather. I was lookin for something to peak my interest and help me waste this last 1/4 tank of gas.
Well it took a little while of cruising around, but I eventually happened upon a 03-04 Civic Si and a MazdaSpeed Protege with what sounded like both had exhausts. They obviously knew each other and were runing down 70 West near New Stanton. I jumped in behind them, cut off the driving lights and stayed back as they played accelerate and slow games with each other oblivious to the fact that I was there.
Finally as traffic cleared, open highway was before us. I clicked on the driving lights (as a little "it aint no ordinary Cobalt" battle sign
) and swooped in for a little rumble. I ran up on the civic, the driver bailed over to the right lane and let me pass. I layed some wood to it so he could hear I was in the mood to tango and the Injen CAI off the Jersey barrier got his attention as I blew past the Mazdaspeed then civic respectively. They fanned out behind me as if to check with one another and confirm ..."yep that sucky ass Cobalt guy just did a fly by on US..?"
One one thousand...two one thousand..ta dah...Yep here they come. So the civic comes up first, slows beside me and his passenger leans out and shakes his head and yells "Dude your car is &@$*&$" I say yeah probably so... but it's faster than that "Japanese Suppository...!!" His face shrinks into bitter beer face ..he ducks back in the window...and the civic driver nails it. I am waiting in 3rd and punch it also. He momentarily makes alittle bit of a fender lead and then I come charging right on by into 4th and all the way through and into 5th. By then I had about 4-5 car lengths in front.
The MazdaSpeed was right behind us... so me thinks...hmmm this might be good. I tap the brakes and all three of us slow. The civic now jumps in behind me and the Mazdaspeed comes up for a swing. He both look over ( he looks SO serious..I almost giggle) But he honks three times and we're off. Neck and neck until about top of 4th then I start walking. Did I mention I LOVE the VECTOR ECM..!! The top end is getting stronger day by day. Seems like the cool weather and ECM really helps the car on the top end and this is only the 3rd time I've driven it since it went in.... By 5th I have a car on him and he gives up.
We exchange
and he slows to draw along side civic boy.. I turn off make a u'ey and head home listenen to 80s.

heh, the last Mazda Speed Protege I raced was midly boosted with three pages long of things he has done to the car, he said he beats Cobalts all the time, I told him to prove it at the light. Needless to say that I put 4 cars on him by the time the race was over and his face was priceless. He goes what do you have done to that thing? I said in my reply "Bone Stock" (I was at that time) and he was so sad. I then proceed to ask him what model is raced because he said none of them had the kind of spoiler I have and told me a few sedans and a LS Coupe

The Mazdaspeed was the worst Turbocharged car ever designed by Mazda. Need some lookup you can find it here http://www.msprotege.com/forum/showt...hp?t=123630321 can't even handle more then 10PSI (4 more over stock) without blowing a hole in the motor or dying. What is amusing is reading about BrianMP5T on the thread of his same fate. Because of the poor design stock they are only limited to 6 1/2 lbs of boost on a 2.0 motor which is lucky to hit over 100whp on motor. The other 70whp comes from the boost hence it making 170HP.
Get your facts right... there is 05-06 N/A 2.4 SS's that run low 15's ... Mazdaspeed got owned by a better driver and car.

It takes a while Dave. But you eventually find something...

I am pretty sure I was there when a stage 3 intense kit dynoed 275 whp and 275 torque

And this MAXED out M62 People Have run 2.6" pullies @18-20lbs of boost.
So yea don't make a remark about our cars unless you do a little research before hand.

who cares if you can run that same HP as we do in your RSX, you have to wind up that rubber band to about 8-9k to get peak power where we only have to do it at 3k less. It's a car, not a god damn crotch rocket.
That's like the other day some clown on woodward goes "OH yeah? My RSX Type S can go 9k"
I told him ya that's nice.... I can spool quicker and be ahead of you every gear of the way by the time you make ample power in every gear.
Yes Siiiiiiiiiiiiir, VTAK right here at it's finest! Nothing better then going at mach speed at 9k of revving power. All HP no torque. It's no wonder the race is already determined from a dig before I hit 2nd gear.

THe 03-04 Civic Si's are only 160HP, and some extremely pathetic amount of torque. The 2.4 SS is 170HP stock, so with the ECU upgrade, it could easily destroy an Si, just as GTP did. Most Si's can only run high 15's stock anyway, you could probably hang with one with just a 2.2 Cobalt with I/E.
I guess Hondas can't lose though because they have VTAK bitches!!!!
