2005 SS/SC vs 2012 WRX
I was leaving the parking deck at school yesterday and a 2012 wrx was behind me. He ended up going the same way I was and we were on the highway curisng past everyone for a while (me leading of course ) well we got to a dead section of highway and he pulled up next to me and we did one run at about 45mph and ran up to 115 or so. I'm suprised at how close the cobalt kept up honestly. He was took a 3-4 car lead on the jump. Top end of 3rd through 4th it was neck and neck he wasnt pulling anymore. All i have is a header/downpipe/exhaust and an intake. Those wrx are at 260hp and 240tq stock! Kid seemed pretty cool too.
cant wait to see him after i do a turbo swap this coming summer. 10-11 car lead will be ceratin

the reason u were neck and neck is because the wrx and sti loose a lot of power to the wheels. sti dynos at around 200whp stock, which is retarded loss. wrx would be similar im sure. so ur basically around the same whp he just has the advantage from a dig. why he jumped 3 cars on u off a roll id say would be u not being as quick on the draw as he was and he got the jump. that or wrx make more power lower down than u do. idk what there powerband is so I couldn't tell ya

WRX's a bit less than that.
You are right though, driveline loss and powerband are a big factor.

That's weak. My buddy paid 36,000 brand new for his wrx in 2013 and already voided his warranty. I tried talking him out of it, but it was his choice.
All day while I'm driving in the truck is see so many wrx's. I personally think they are overrated, especially when it doesn't snow that much. Don't get me wrong id deff like them but I would rather buy like a 03 bug eye and call it a day. But it comes down to personal preference

I have a 2014 WRX.
Once my Cobalt is paid off and I get bored of it, I'm getting an STi.
There is a night and day difference between the two. My Cobalt is much much MUCH faster than the WRX. Even stock for Stock my SS SC and my SS/TC were faster.
However, there is no rattle interior with the WRX. the power deliver is much better and the resale is much better on them.

I drove a buddies launch edition. He's not really a car guy and looked at me and went "quick right" and I just had to shrug. They're nice cars. They look good and feel well built. It was a blast to throw it around in turns as well. To me its not worth a $35K price tag.

He was the one honking it out so maybe jumped the gun a little or I was a little slow but this car was no slouch for stock. He definetly had me at first and it seemed like he shifted way before me. Maybe his gearing ratios are a little different. Nonetheless his car was def a little quicker than mine.

Did you start in 3rd?
If you want to ever be faster than your cobalt you want to get an EVO not an STI

Rumor has it they are changing the motor in the 2016 model since the 2015 uses the same EJ257 as the previous 10 years of STi.
The new one is supposed to be a 2.5L Direct Injected flat 4. the new WRX gets great gas mileage and puts down decent power for being DI.

I may have started in third i dont remember. I was more focused on slowing down to his speed than even paying attention to my gear lol. Pretty sure i started in second tho. At 45mph thats only what like 4500rmp in 2nd?
