Talking Lets look at the options....

Civic SI

heres a few words to describe it

TINY
Hatchback....
Saw one in a High School Parking Lot... Next to about 30 other nicer cars
Of course its fast its the size of my GO-Kart

Things to think about if buying one...

If your over 5'5" DONT BUY IT
If you weigh more than 200lbs DONT BUY IT you will break it
I can keep going but I think you get the point

Cobalt SS

Nice size
Nice Wheels
Nice everything
Will Kill Most cars like it STOCK

If you drop into it what most do into a honda it will be crazy

Comes with the interior colors so you dont have to spray paint it like all the hondas out there

Wont get made fun of for having a Honda... haha

I can keep going here too but I dont have to preach to the ss board about the ss

Results BOW DOWN AND CHOOSE THE CHEVY

I definately like the looks of that car as well, but like somebody else said, it's a concept car and we can be 99% sure it wont look like that when it comes out.

Click the link Newb. The discussion is on the new 2006 Si. Not that POS hatch you're talking about.

Well, according to Honda this concept is 98% what the production version will look like.

The concept and production models for the current Civic are near identical.

Both cars are great. However, I get a kick how some of you diehard cobalt ss owners (future owners) justify that the ss s/c is better:

- "Comes with the interior colors so you dont have to spray paint it like all the hondas out there"

- "If you weigh more than 200lbs DONT BUY IT you will break it"

Stop - you sound stupid.

This Honda will be significantly lighter and its an import (holds excellent resale value). Not to mention LSD and brembo calipers and cross drilled rotors (IF actual model is same as concept). Do i even need to mention it wont have **** aftermarket parts like the RAZZI kit (oouuu ahhhhh)

Either way you cant deny it will be the best competition out there for the cobalt. Lets wait till it come out then start making decisions.

Hey I'm not tryin to sound stupid I'm just sick of people buying early to mid 90's Hondas ( green with tan interior of course) putting an intake a muffler and some color inside and thinking its cool. Thats why i dont like honda. I have a buddy with an older SI Coupe, real nice car will blow a cobalt away... becuase he dumped his life savings into it. My point is just that you are driving a much nicer car off the lot in a Cobalt SS. If Honda actually puts out that pre prod car that they show I will be shocked enough to budge on my opinion.

I wouldn't say that. I love my Chevy, but Honda has good quality, you can't deny that.

The only thing I have against Honda's is that they can be over rated. People say hondas run forever... so do american cars... any car you take care of will (not a kia)

I have many friends with hondas and a few are nice

I'm just saying if your thing is a sporty tuner car... THE cobalt SS is a much better choice off of the lot, its already "tuned"

Think about it this way, the 200hp new civic will cost much more than the starting price of 19,000 for the 03 Si, which had 160hp. The new civic will be nice and all, but its way too much money for a civic... might as well buy an old ass civic and put an integra motor with turbo... save money and have more speed.

the current Si with 160hp is not really fast at all... actually i think it ran 16.5 in the 1320. Its basically even with the Cobalt base.

We're talking about the 2006 Civic Si. Not previous years.

i think it's funny how people talk about swapping parts like it's so cheap and easy. "oh, just swap the block, put new pistons in, then slap a turbo on," etc. it's silly

It's this easy: Chevy made the SS great from the factory, and takes very little money, time, and parts to make it way faster. An NA motor, on the other hand, takes a lot of money, time, and SKILL to make reliable, high hp. I always laugh at the Honda guys for this crazy talk. In the real world, very few people have the skills, time, and money to sawp blocks, install new pistons and crank, THEN go buy a turbo and put it in, tune it, etc. The fact is, we have a FI car from the factory, built for FI, and covered under warranty for 5/60k miles. BEAT THAT HANDA

I find it really amazing about differently Canadians and Americans think about Honda's. Bottom line is: Cobalt SS's and Civic SI's have advantages and disadvantages and it comes down to a matter of taste and budget.

Reasons why I think the Cobalt SS is a better choice:

1. PRICE - more standard equip than Honda (incl. wheels, factory performance parts)
2. PRIDE - designed and built at home
3. PERFORMANCE - amazing performance for the money

Reasons why I think the Honda is a better choice:

1. REPUTATION/RELIABILTY - let's face it, J-Bodies for GM were a disaster from a quality reputation perspective - however, I honestly think the Cobalt is going to improve GM's sport compact rep
2. RESALE VALUE - there's no arguing that Honda's have one of the highest resale values in the industry - however, not important if you're not planning on selling for a very long-time or leasing
3. MOD SUPPLY - there are a lot more mod choices than Cobalt but given more time, this will change

There...those are my two cents. And to my fellow Canadians out there, take a closer look at the competition. Honda is no longer the only party in town anymore!!!

i know im stupid so dont tell me i know already, just agree that domestic cars will rule the U.S. sport compact market in the next 5 years take them imports back to where the were imported from , man i wish my 06 would just magically appear on a car hauler tomorow

Sorry if I cover something that has already been covered but I wanted to post before I left work.

I have a RSX Type S. The 2006 will have a LSD but it's a Honda LSD which has been know to fail with higher power.

There are a lot of good mods already out for the RSX which the si will share the same motor with. So there are some decent options either n/a or f/i.

What I like about the Cobalt is even though the new si and the ss will be listed as having close hp, the ss is pretty well underrated.

I'm betting the two cars have simaliar performance numbers. The SS may have the edge 0-60 mph due to having better torque numbers. I would guess, well equipped they will sticker at $22,000 to $25,000?

i finally found the hp rating for that damn car lol... it's supposed to be a 200hp 1.8L

hopefully it will still be 200 @ the crank and not under-rated like the cobalt.. i really don't wanna get beat by a damn civic
