2009 SS/TC vs TT 300zx

So I was driving on rt 2 in Maryland saturday night and a 90s 300zx TT rolled up. He asked me to race him on I97, so I was assuming he'd win by the sound of it and it blowing flames. However, we raced 3 times from a 40 roll 60 roll and 80 roll, and I pulled all 3 times on him. Was very surprising.

still doesnt mean it wasnt a na block with 1 turbo on or a TT with intercooler. Also if it was a automatic they had less hp. stock manual TT had 300hp but they have more drivetrain loss than a fwd. so good kill.

from the way he was driving had to be a stick. and im farely certain it was a twin turbo one, however even if it was a NA block with 1 turbo. should still beat me... its a v6.

not technically, a stock one wouldnt. unless he did some work you'd win. the car alone weighs like 500lbs more than yours. you have a better power to weight ratio and less drivetrain loss than him. thats a old car they werent "that" fast unless you made them fast.

Trap speed? ZX's are not all that fast stock and with minor bolt ons, a tuned/bolted lnf should keep up at the very least. You don't need to start worrying until they swap hairdryers....actually strike that, you shouldn't worry once they do, you just shouldn't race them altogether. It was probably a TT with just some bolt ons. Nice kill.

You sure that isn't backwards? I mean what did you race to 150 or something to pull 4 cars from an 80 roll? Not to mention the TC's notorious lack of top end around a 100...

The Z's can be incredibly fast when modded, but because of the setup, incredibly expensive,
you need 2 manifolds, 2 turbos, 2 intakes, 2 throttle bodies... 2x as many parts as the Inline 6 from the supra.... Another testament to how superior the supra really was. That said, if you ran into a Z owned by a drug dealer or pornstar, you are in for a serious, serious epic, monumental beating.

Well that definitely explains why you beat him then. A stock 300ZX is a 14 second car. With his mods, he was probably in the 13's. If you're running 12.6 with FWD, then you're probably trapping the same as a RWD car running low 12's.

Nice kill.

A stock Twin Turbo can and will run mid 13's if the driver can drive. He more than likely got rid of the two small IC's and opted for a single dual outlet one, and put in BOV's. He probably wasn't much faster than stock, as others have said they are righteously expensive to mod. Now, its very possible for the Z to run 12.6's and you beat him from a roll because the Z being better with traction down low and the Cobalt being able the MPH more.
