350 zzzzz
350 zzzzz
So in Alaska, there aren't a lot of higher performance vehicles that make it up here besides trucks. We have some of the most powerful trucks in the world here, but that's about it. But we do have A LOT of 350z's.
I found myself driving around about an hour ago just going to get some gas and get money out of the ATM machine so that I wouldn't have to do it in the morning. When I was at the gas station, this kid was talking all sorts of **** about the Cobalt, how inefficient it is, and how it will never be a real sports car and is just a waste of money... normally I don't think anything of it and just continue with my business, but it was because he was driving a 350z that it annoyed me, as there are very few cars that I hate more than the 350z.
At first things looked like were going to end with words, but he caught me several miles down the road on a beautiful straight away at a light. I'm not much of a street racer, because I will only race to the speed limit and that's it. Luckily, we were at the last light before the road we were on turned into highway and went up to 65 MPH, plenty of time to put this 350 to sleep... unfortunately... with my paltry 250 HP to his like 300, things were already stacked against me...
As he bounced around at the light attempting to intimidate me, the light changed, and with a slight drop of the clutch, I used stored power to boost myself ahead of him off the line, something I was positive he would beat me on. Lucky for me, I had much more experience on my side. Slowly he would creep up on me, but with each of my smooth, perfectly executed shifts, I would screech ahead a little bit more as he struggle to get his car into gear fast enough.
We raced up to 80 mph and then I slowed down, signaling the end, and then he pulled behind me and we exited where he of course had quite a bit to say. There was no way that he just got smoked by a Cobalt, so he began to talk about his vehicle just being stock, and that there was no chance for him to beat a car that was obviously HEAVILY modified... it's a shame that I had to show him that he just got smoked by a Stage 2 with an intake...
In the end, I had him by a little over a car length, with no chance of him catching up. It was my first race in my new Cobalt... and I'll put that on the Kill charts!

I can't stand the 350z, it just gives a shitty driver enough power to think they are badass... before I sold my RX-8, I used to love putting 350's to shame... Mustangs were quite a bit of fun too, because for some reason they are the cockiest people ever... My first car was a Mustang and I got out of that scene for that reason. I like being friendly with all groups, I don't care if they are ricerific, or domestic... doesn't matter to me, it's all about expanding the industry and pushing the limits of what our vehicles can do, regardless of what you are driving...
i like 350z and most nissans in general but i always hate cocky owners. like the sti i raced. a kid straight out of highschool in a 2007 sti, worst part is, he had tires put on at my work and his parents drive off in some suzuki car while he is in an sti. him and his parents were talking crap about almost every car including the cobalt ss/sc and even z06s! to my service manager. i saw him weeks later at the car hangout and asked if he wanted to race and he was chuckling and rolling his eyes like it was gonna be a waste of time for him after i told him all my mods. saying that i can watch him put it into front wheel drive only mode and he'll still beat me. we ended up going on the highway and his passenger had his camera phone out to watch me get spanked... i think he must of been some shitty driver b/c i put 3 car lengths 3 different races. the last 2 i even let him initiate. sorry for the long post... end of story i hate cocky car owners
It's always cool to here kill stories against cocky bastards! There are very few drivers out of high school that are going to beat me unless they really have an incredible car. Experience plays such a huge role in a race, and if you just don't have that experience, even a 100 HP advantage can disappear in an instant. I think that's why I love racing Mustangs so much... they are so cocky, but no one challenges them.... everyone wants to challenge the damn ricers... but these Mustangs are generally easy to beat because a lot of the kids that are driving them don't know how to use their power... and it makes you look like a hero.
haha i hear that. especially 99-04 mustangs, they feel faster b/c of the torque but i've beatin my friends with intake and exhaust and another one on the road. people just dont give the cobalt enough respect, they read the 205bhp rating and sleep on all of them including the stage 2 balts. i love proving them wrong.

Man, your in Anchorage huh? Sweet. I was stationed there when I was in the Air Force. I was a little scared because they told me that there wasn't any women there. To my suprise there was PLENTY, all nationalities. Believe it or not there was some sexy lookin' eskimos too!!
I miss that place, especially the women I had fun with. Nice story man.

Nice kill man...and you are so right about cocky drivers and mustangs...and why is it that most of them are young rednecks that assume a V8 makes them gods? It is funny how I can beat them with 1.3L to their 4.6L lol

and this whole time i thought the rx8s cars were suppose to be kinda slow....
rx8's dip on 350z? interesting.... what did ur rx 8 have done to it, to be putting the 350 to SHAME? I mean u saying "putting the to shame" I take that as like u were demolishing them by like 4 or more cars?

The RX8 is slower than the 350z, but it's still a fast ride, the biggest thing is that you have to be rolling.... they have a much better redline, so during a street race they have an advantage over a stock 350, because you don't have to shift as soon. You'll get up to your top speed in a street race shifting less than someone else. That's the major benefit. But it also has a smooth, relatively short shift, so if you are racing someone less experienced, you can make up quite a bit just off of the shift alone. I find most people with the 350 bought it to have a race car and just don't have the experience that a lot of other drivers that purchase other cars have... that's why they went with that car. There are some great 350 drivers out there, I'm sure... I just haven't found any. Certain cars just attract people because they are born with built in power, whereas other cars such as the SS/SC need a few mods to get incredibly gains... but with work can be truly powerful... and smoke the others... I think this attracts some of the better drivers, because there is just more you can do to some of these vehicles.

Another good kill, what were his excuses and what did he say after the race?
I think what it comes down to is that we are all trying to do the same things with our cars... push them to the limit and each person is integral in making the scene that much better year after year. The problem is that everyone gets into these groups and puts down the other groups of modders. To me, I don't care if you are modding out a Civic, a Silverado, a Model T or a Cobalt, we are all doing the same thing and are all part of the same brother/sister hood of modders... and we should give each other respect because of that. However, respect needs to be earned... and to do that you have to show respect.

Nice kill!!! He'll be making excuses forever. Should have told him you only had a stage kit, and a CAI and then tell him "shut up and quit whining that you lost, bottom line is you lost." I hate cocky owners of ANY car group. Mustangs, RSX, Evos, STi's, etc. I don't care what car you have. You can be cool about it, people are just not having respect for their fellow modders these days.

Good, nice job correcting him. next time, tell him that he still had more HP than you did. He is a loser. Race what you brung, win or lose. Then get over it.
In the end, it's just a race, don't make excuses, just use it to motivate you to mod harder and learn to drive better. With driving being the major thing to work on first. I don't give a damn how hard you mod, if you can't drive the damn thing, then was it really worth it?
I had a buddy a few years back that modded his Celica GT-S along with me. We would constantly one-up each other in the modification arena. Then one day I went to drive with him, and he had a new clutch... well there are some clutches that really aren't meant for street driving and he was constantly stalling out. The clutch was awesome for racing applications... well, maybe if he had another 100 HP... but for street driving or street racing, he didn't have the experience to truly be able to handle it. So until he learned to drive it, it really didn't matter that he had a nearly 400 HP Celica... because he couldn't operate it effectively.

good kill. Definately not a good driver from a dig. A stock 03-06 Z from a dig with a good driver should go 13.8-14.1. With an average driver they are 14.3-14.8. The 07 on the other had with good drivers have went 13.3-13.6. The 07 is the one to have now. They rate it at 306, but that was on the new rating. With the old style of rating it would be at 320.
A modded Z with intake, exhaust, plenum spacer with a good driver will beat a stg2 balt froma dig or a roll, with a good driver.
