4 Races, 3 Kills
4 Races, 3 Kills
One race was random on the interstate and the other 3 were against another turbo Focus.
Yesterday evening our local club had our weekly meet in the usual spot. As I was driving there in the Focus on the interstate, I passed this stock looking Scion TC with a couple younger Hispanic guys in it. I get a few car lengths ahead of him and he jumps over the lane behind me and starts riding my ass. As soon as traffic cleared up, he jumped over into the other lane next to me and punched it. I figured I'd see just how easy this would be to beat him so I just put the gas down in 5th gear, no downshifting, just hitting the gas at 2800rpm in high gear. He was about a half car on me and I slowly starting pulling him in cause it doesn't take much to spool in 5th gear since there's an abundance of engine load. I am about even with him and starting to pull in front of him. We're at about 95-100mph when I decide enough screwing around. I dropped it down to 4th and left him, granny shifted to 5th, and probably had 5-6 cars on him without really trying. I got on the brakes and started slowing back down. He then does a ricer flyby on me and gets off on an exit. lol FAIL!
A fellow boosted Focus in the area has been a part of our club since the beginning, but we've never raced each other. He has the 2.3L motor (I have the 2.0L) and he has a slightly smaller turbo. He spools quicker and has more hp and tq but I have less weight with a gutted hatchback and his is a sedan with full interior and power everything. I also have a shorter 4.06 gear to his stock 3.82 gear, both cars are 5speeds. The first run was from a 30 roll in 2nd gear. We hit it, he spooled instantly but my gear made up for the slight lag and we stuck about even through 2nd. I hit 3rd and started to pull on him. By the end of the 3rd, I had about 2 cars on him, so I let it off. We got back even again and did another run from a 40 roll this time and had the same result. The third and final run, he wanted to do a 3rd gear run from a 40 roll. I knew this one was going to be interesting because it had his setup and mods written all over it. We hit it, he spooled instantly and jumped about a half car on me. I got over the lag started pulling even with him. I had made it back up to about almost door to door when I hit the rev limter in 3rd gear and he kept going. Damn that shorter final gear! lol He gets the win on that one.
The turbo'd Focus sedan is making about 240whp/240wtq to my 230whp/215wtq. I'm also about 300lbs lighter with a slightly bigger turbo, shorter gears, and LSD.
Cliffnotes:
race vs stock Scion TC = humiliated him in 5th gear
race #1 vs Turbo Focus = win by 2 car lengths
race #2 vs Turbo Focus = win by 2 car lengths
race #3 vs Turbo Focus = 3rd gear pull and he won by barely a fender.
All in all, it was a good night.
