well..fact is...no matter how fast your car feels, a stock vs stock race between a 01 GTS and a cobalt ss/sc, the yoda will get raped.
my 2.2 feels fast sometimes, feels like it has TOURQUE sounds LOUD! AMERICAN MUSCLE!

then i look at the spedometer.

lol, damn spedometer.
If it was based just on sound PSHHH i'd have people killed.
A guy drove my car and had a 98 z28, and the first thing he said after W.O.T. was
"It sure is loud, and sure isn't going anywhere"

And after W.O.T in his auto z28. well, i didn't have anything to say.lol

Well I raced a mid 90s to late model one I believe. Well This is how it went down.

I was in the left lane and he was in the right lane. Light turns green I didnt even know he was there. I go to my usual 3000RPM in first with quarter to half throttle and shift into second. Only to look over hearing what sounds like a car slaming into second (tires chirp a little and engine roars) and I look over and floor it. Mind you I dont down shift and im going maybe 20-30. We sit dead even for a bit then I pull away. There was a second or so I was looking at his car hanging onto the rear of door of mine. I looked down once I started pulling away which was about 40ish and I stayed into it till 60 which by then I was a car length ahead or two.

So I get into the right lane at the next light because I had to turn right after the light. He turns on his blinker so I scoot up into the intersection a little to let him do his turn. He rolls down his window and nodded his head and gave me a look of 'nice'.... Now I dont believe he was stock but I know NOTHING of Celicas. Sounded like he atleast had an intake from the nice engine roar. I think I would have beatn him alot worse had I went all the way to 7 grand in first etc etc. However I do say I was impressed he held with me while I had it on the floor in second.

All in all power to weight in those cars is awesome.

when you know the facts, please post them. do not post hypothetical nonsense. why? it's simple. someone here knows the answer, and that answer posted is wildly inaccurate.

2005 Chevrolet Cobalt SS Supercharged, 6.1 14.4 (MT Dec '05)
2001 Toyota Celica GTS 7.3 15.5

From legalstreets

You get the picture, 3 sites, professional drivers(from car and driver) drove them, not some 16 year old that doesn't know how to drive.
Even from looking at specs the cobalt ss/sc wins
I mean, forced induction 4 cylinder, vs what, high output n/a 4 cylinder?

GO to youtube, the supercharged celicas, manual transmission, with smaller tires than stock are running low 14's
""14.34 Track was 100 deg.. 1/4 mile with smaller size tires than stock.""

So. if they are beating cobalt ss/sc stock, without forced induction or mods, that means that adding a supercharger would take them down to 14.34? HMMMMM something sounds wrong here, seeing as it would have to run 14.5 or lower, i'd say that 14.34 for a supercharged celica is pretty crappy if it only brings it down .2 of a second.
Just the FACTS, just the facts.
Of course i'd assume all of these are wrong, never know...

its funny to me that neither of you noticed that all three of those times for the celica are EXACTLY alike which probably means those three websites all got their times from the exact same place, thus the exact same driver.'

i can play the magazine racer game too-
http://www.modernracer.com/chevroletcobaltsssup.html
14.9@95.5

i guess nobody can do faster than that in an ss/sc cause a pro driver did it. That would make your stage 2 + car what.... a low 14 sec car at best?

keep on mag racing guys, its pretty entertaining.

well no **** an ss/sc will beat it nobody argued that. why don't you take a better look around than youtube and car and driver and realize that stock block blown gt-s's can run 12's fairly simply. i hope you notice that is a celica gt too, not a gt-s. You can keep trying all day, you are just digging yourself deeper into a hole cody....i mean cobalt.

haha... cody...my only argument was that they couldnt hit 14's. i say this because i have seen several run at the track. with times no better than 15.5, and thats slightly modded. im not saying its not possible, just not probable.

i wouldn't go that far.. mines a 2000 gt-s and i've abused it pretty good. bought it in 04 w/ 32k miles and currently it has 92k w/ turbo @ 9psi running a not so good tune since march this yr. only thing that has failed on me so far is a coil pack! the thing is pretty good but when you mis-shift and try to do extremely dumb stuff is when stuff happens.. plus the GT-S engines have stronger internals than the GT.

i was more calling the other kid cody lol. It's not probably because the thing is so hard to drive, but there are people that can put em in 14's consistantly.

who is cody? lol
I never said celicas were slow, i never said they didn't have potential..like i said, every car has potential if you unlock it.
All i said was a stock ss/sc vs a stock 01 GTS the ss/sc wins, someone said that it would beat a cobalt somewhere up there and i knew that was wrong.
Who's cody? lol

this is doubtful, I rode in a buddy's '02 GTS and every time he shifted exactly at 8k he landed back at 6k, stayed in lift the entire time.. and it wasnt slow either, however it was definitely not a 14 sec car...more like 15 sec, but still quick

My first car I ever wanted was a '99 Celica GT-S, black, 6 speed when they first came out. Damn did they look good. Well that was my first real car that I wanted. lol. My first non-real (in my dreams) car that I wanted was a '69 Corvette Sting Ray 427. haha

Nope... just looked it up:

Rev Limits
2000: 8350 rpm
2001: 8350 rpm
2002: 7800 rpm
2003: 8350 rpm
2004: 8200 rpm

etc...

2002 was the lowest by far.

Also, except for cars built prior to Sept. '99, they hit lift at 6200rpm.

Anyway, the 2002 may not be a 14-second car, but the fastest ones, 2000-2001, certainly have.
