In short, yes. You can make more actual force at the ground. I didn't say more power.
If you came up with a gear so steep, for 1 brief second your lawnmower could actually put out more FORCE at the ground than your SS Cobalt.

Two cars, geared appriopriately, same weight, same consistant curves reletive to their power.

Car A: 200hp 400tq
Car B: 400hp 200tq

Car B is making twice as much power, with half the tq. It's going to murder car A.
either car can win if they are setup right... but again too many factors have to be taken into consideration, .. wind, grade of the race surface, drag coefficient, etc.

GOd damn ur dense as ****.

HOW THE HELL ARE YOU GOING TO WIN A ******* RACE WITHOUT TORQUE??? ANSWER ME.

HOW IS A ******* CAR THAT PRODUCES 0 TQ GOING TO MAKE ANY HP?? HP IS A FUCKIONG MEASURMENT OF TORQUE, IT IS NOT ITS OWN ******* POWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

Do you ******* turn ur car off at the staging light, release the ebrake and push it to win races? Cuz the second u turn the wheels of that ******* car ur making TORQUE, which is the ******* TURNING FORCE OF THE WHEEL. Horsepower is another variable OF TORQUE and DOES NOT EXIST WITHOUT TORQUE.

The ******* quote is a play on words. Holy ****...

you are forgetting friction and other factors that would eliminate any advantage the gears would provide to the lawn mower... the more moving parts you have to use to give it a power advantage the more power you lose getting it to the ground.

Can't you possibly assume that the quote means, when an average person goes to buy a car , they are looking for horsepower, but when it comes down to facts and math, TORQUE is the driving force of cars. I think with his quote, all he is stating is that the general public buys cars based on horsepower because they don't have the understanding of torque. But when it comes down to physics, torque is the major factor in creating horsepower, it is an important component in the derivation of horsepower. Less torque in the formula, less horsepower.

I don't think he is saying compare cars based on their torque. I think all he is saying is that without a good solid torque number in the horsepower formula, you have weaker horsepower. Which results in the meaning torque wins races.

i think this guy hit the nail on the head. most people assume a car with more HP will be faster and that is not always the case

well it was fun...

there are too many variables to say HP or TQ wins...its all about balancing

more torque makes more power...but where does it make the power

would you rather have a car that generates 350hp/ 300tq or 350hp/325tq... both cars having same drivetrain and etc...

um obviously the one with the same hp and more torque that just makes sense... what does this question prove? lol

350hp/325tq = 5656 max tq rpm

350hp/ 300tq = 6127 max tq rpm

^based on the formula

Obviously though its better to make more tq at equal hp levels.

how fast is the wind blowing that day? lol more RPM means higher top speed but it can only get that top speed if the TORQUE is enough to push the car against the wind to reach that RPM again it's all relative :P

It will take the car with less tq more time to make the same hp measurement. This is of course assuming that peak hp isnt kicking in until after the tq curve drops.

1badss/sc is right idk why u guys arent believing him... tq is ftw when it comes to racing. as long as u get it to the ground correct. its like u take that rx8 6 speed right? and run it again a stock ss/sc... who wins and why? ss/sc, we have more tq and put it to the ground better. u can have alllllll the whp in the world. but if u dont have torque u are not going ANYWHERE. thats why MACK trucks have 500wtq and 350whp. Torque PULLS **** and KEEPS it going. hp is just a made up number

i think it's like 235hp and 157ftlbs of torque but again... even with ideal conditions there are still too many factors... gearing, weight ratio, suspension, tires, driver etc.

Wow, they are that low? Never really looked them up, always thought they would have better numbers, especially since it is the continuation of the legendary rx-7. But at least they still perform awesome around a track.

LOL the SS will smoke him big time. He will travel down the powerband faster even though the RX8 will be making a very small amount more hp by the top of his powerband.
