Corvette....
Corvette....
So I was on the expressway the other day with my wife (did a little christmas shopping), behind me there's a white corvette.
Looks like this one:

Anyway it's a three lane highway and in the center lane there was a big rig, I'm on the right lane and the Corvette goes around the rig to the left lane. I pull in front of the rig and at this point the Corvette is right next to me. We started a race from a roll doing about 60, I had dropped it to 3rd, and I was truly expecting to get spanked, but what happened next was amazing and disappointing.
1.) He was not pulling away... wow, what's going on here! 65.... 70...75..80..85..95
Wife: "What the hell are you doing?"
Looks over to the left, "oh crap, I see."
2.) Suddenly, rev limiter....
Me: "Damn, I hit the rev limiter, when am I going to get used to that shift!!!!"
At this point the Corvette pulled on me and jumped a car length, he slowed down, and I shifted to 4th, but did not bother to chase, rather I pulled along side the guy. It was an older male, maybe 50 or so with his wife, they were smiling and waving. His face looked a little surprised from what had just occurred, frankly so was I!
What I don't know and maybe someone can help me out here is, how do our cars stack up against a Corvette. I believe he had an automatic, (He must have) cause he certainly did not blow me away. And I know he was trying cause when we hit the gas, I could hear his engine over mine.
Now, I know our cars are nothing like Corvettes, and I am not saying I beat one, but I certainly was hanging with one from a roll.
I just have to get a better feel for that shift from 3rd to 4th, it just feels like it can do more.
Oh, well maybe next time, and after a few more mods.

Same thing happened to me with a Porch. Not a Turbo Porch but It was definitly an Automatic. He had one and a half lengths on me though.
The old guy that was driving it was working the car hard too. I never missed a gear and was right on his ass. until he got off an exit. You know he was pissed off my car was only $23,000 when his was at least 2 1/2 times the amount of mine.

he probably took solace in the fact that he drives a Porsche and that his last concern is street racing sport compacts ... he then proceeded home to bang his trophy wife and smoke a cigar ...

I don't think he was messing, I never heard a Corvette engine sound that loud when someone was messing.
Of course I am not sure what type of engine he had, could have been the low end model. (If there is such a thing)
What year would you say that Corvette model is (roughly), I know some older vettes had 0-60 times anywhere from 5.7 - 6.7 secs. And if that's the case, then I could have probably shadowed him much longer.
Of course, if he was messing, that doesn't explain his face, even though he was smiling, he had that look ("What the hell is in that car!").

its somewhere between 97-05 and they run zero to sixty in 4.7 with a high 12 1/4 prob a low 13 since it was an auto and there is not a low end model they are all 350 V8's with 350hp and 350 lb ft of torque, so i could see a modded one hanging with the guy but not a stock one.
LS1 corvettes trap in around 110 or so. At sixty it would be best for him to just be shifting into 3rd. He could have picked 4th gear instead of 3rd. If that was the case you should have been side to side till you shifted into 4th. His 4th for have kept him for a lot longer. And he still had two more gears to go.
Go run none the less. Im sure the guy in the corvette has a new found respect for cobalt. And he might be on his way to get some new mods.

Either way the outcome was the same, I screwed up in my shift from 3rd to 4th
by hitting the rev limiter. If I wouldn't have hit it, and I would have kept going, would he then have started to really race? Maybe, or maybe he would just laughed at me and slowed down.Or maybe at that point he would have really slammed on the gas.
Who know's, all I know is that it lasted 30 secs, and it was fun.

Yeah you got me I didn't realize i spelt Porsche wrong until after i posted.
Thanks for the jokes you guys always have jokes.
It was a boxster in the early 2000's. It was a nice car but I'd rather drive my Chevy.
